The shipping thing does make it worse because many artists pour their feelings into their art. Fanart is a love letter to something you love. 

There could be more personal feelings poured into it that are now being torn out of context.

And I agree if that was what happened. It wasn’t, here’s what happened OP posted stolen art of Satoshi showing Suiren his Kasumi lure with tags about how canon sucks and this is now canon his best lure yada yada. So someone responded with a photoset of SM Satoshi with the Pikachu lure and what he says about how he has the best lure. No comments just a photoset. 

Next: People reblogged it with tags like “destroyed” and “I’m laughing” “I’m snorting” No ship hate. Just that nothing mean about said ship at all. Then the popular blogs I guess? found it and went off the deep end about how this is ship hate and to “grow up”  despite a ton of them making similar comments on other ships all the time and THEN they went into oh wait this is unsourced art how terrible!!!! Despite never caring before. And that’s what happened. No ship hate, overreacting and using it’s unsourced art as an excuse to be upset when I’ve never seen them give a rattata’s booty about art theft before. Eventually the OP responded not knowing it was unsourced art and apologizing for that and making a joke that could be taken the wrong way and deleted the post. And yet some people still can’t let this go despite art theft being the bigger issue than apparently ship hate that happened somewhere

No one even said anything mean lol it was stuff like "I'm laughing" like? Since does that equate to "I hate this ship". God.

YES you feel me. I agree with you 100% and it is indeed a society thing, popular means better. And that’s just not true.
