BASICALLY I see this part as Ohba and Obata putting Misa into a horny bondage gear contraption that has overtly sexual vibes as a sly fan-servicey thing, so they’re adding to the “joke” by being like “LOL what do you mean it’s perverted, it’s just your run-of-the-mill murder suspect confinement, obviously”…. yeeaahhh it’s certainly not my favourite part of the manga, to say the least. Misa got off pretty easy here compared to some of the poor girls in Platinum End though, so I guess we can be glad that this manga was rated Teen. There are a lot of instances of female characters being put into degrading and violent situations in Ohba and Obata’s work in a context that is clearly meant to be erotic and/or amusing for the audience, bluh.

Haha ok thanks, I thought so! So Misa basically went directly from meeting L on campus to being put into confinement (on May 28th), and then was kept at HQ for months with L and Light and the Task Force until Higuchi was captured (on Oct. 28th); she lost her eye powers while in confinement, so she wouldn’t have seen L’s name again, even though she hung out with him a bunch over that five month span. She was freed on Oct. 30th and then dug up the Death Note five days later on November 4th… Light left her a letter asking her to remember L’s name so she could kill him in the near future when he gives her the cue, and she couldn’t remember it, so she did the eye trade again. It’s not THAT weird that she’d forget it, but it mostly seems like a “we have to make Misa do the eye trade again” plot thing, I guess. And also so she couldn’t just tell Light L’s name if they met up again in the lobby and such.
