If this had been one of those books, this would be a very dramatic way to go. There would definitely be an emotional speech, some tastefully coughed up blood (which was horribly inaccurate, but they seemed to love any excuse to have someone cough up blood), and maybe a really unearned last minute rescue. As it was, around the throbbing pain and increasingly blurred vision, I was mostly annoyed. What a stupid way to die.

(I've got a few wips I've picked at recently but here is a bit from misaligned functionality because i do still think it's funny)

"Alright, maybe start simpler." It gestured to itself with the free hand, and the gun lowered a few inches. "Name's Nick Valentine. I'm the detective here. You got a name, or…designation or something?" Having it mentioned directly nearly got me to actually answer with my designation — old habits and everything — but I'd used the fake name enough by now that it didn't take too long of a pause to divert to that instead. "Eden." "Eden," Valentine repeated. It sounded skeptical. "Like the president?" Dammit, so that wasn't just a Gurathin thing. I would have to figure out who the hell this president was whose name I had accidentally stolen. "No." Valentine didn't seem convinced. (As if its own name didn't raise so many questions, as if it having a name didn't raise so many fucking questions — some of the escaped synths gave themselves human sounding names to try to blend in, but blending in wasn't really an option for this one. Did the humans name it? The labs definitely wouldn't have bothered. Maybe the humans around here were just used to bots coming with names.)
