This film is about the incredibly true story of Joy Mangano, the creator of the Miracle Mop. It takes you through the journey of her long struggle of bad luck, rejection, legal issues and family ties but ultimately she becomes a millionaire. Jennifer Lawrence, once again did an amazing job. So amazing that she got herself another Oscar nomination for the second time. Director David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook) did yet another impressive job with this one, especially with showing us who the Manganos are in Joy’s world. Her mother being glued to her bed watching Eighties soap operas, her father who pays more attention to finding a new girlfriend rather than his own car repair business and her sister who apparently has her own dreams & creations.
Lastly, her ex husband who although still lives in the basement of their home is still the only true person who can really be on her side other than her best friend. Oh & let’s not forget her late grandmother. She was the one who had all the hope & belief in Joy since she was little. She knew that she would do great things one day. With all these characters put together, outcomes a little bit of a dysfunctional family. But that didn’t stop Joy from pushing through with her creation. She never took no for an answer & when she finally met the right man to help her she always stayed true to herself & what she represented. Meeting Neil Walked(Bradley Cooper)the Shopping Network Executive, was the best luck she could get. The scene where Joy had to do her own infomercial and sell her own product, the Miracle Mop, she struggled a bit because she doesn’t have any experience but once she got her first sale over the phone it just sky rocketed from there. The camera is just focused on Joy’s face & she’s smiling from complete shock and happiness, was one of the best scenes I think in the film. It was so real and so relatable after seeing a success happen. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the film. It depicted Joy Mangano’s story very well & it showed us viewers that we are capable of pulling off our dreams. David O. Russell once again pulled off a great film, no wonder Jennifer Lawrence was nominated. It’s a feel good movie that everyone will love. You did it again JLaw!
