#miracle guy

He won’t break in front of Miracle Guy. There’s little he has control of at the moment, but he can spare his friend his suffering as best as he can. The blond superhero is shackled to the ceiling right in front of where Marcus is tied to a chair. Their captor had realized pretty quickly that the superhero’s power made him invulnerable, and hence he could not be hurt, so his focus changed to Marcus. 

Before the man retracts the knife from the wound, he twists it, the action catching Marcus by surprise and drawing a cry from him. More blood travels down his leg and accumulates on the red puddle on the cement floor. Their captor turns to Miracle Guy who is turning and trashing trying to get the anti-powers cuff off his wrists.

“Your friend there doesn’t have much time, not even one of you freaks can survive losing that much blood.” He drags the knife that had been used to hurt Marcus more than a dozen times along Miracle Guy’s chest. He gets close enough so he can whisper against his ear. “I’d say you have less than an hour to convince him to talk pretty boy, wouldn’t want little Missy to grow up without her dad now, would we?” 

The superhero launches himself forward as their captor takes a step back just out of his reach. “I’ll be outside, yell when he’s ready to talk.”

When the door closes leaving only the two Heroics in the small dark room, Marcus moves his head up from where it had been hanging on top of his chest. The small movement sends a wave of nausea through him and has the room spinning, if not for him being restrained to the chair he’s sure he would have ended up falling to the floor. 

“Moreno you need to tell him,” Miracle attempts once his friend’s breathing has regained more or less its normality. “You are running out of time.”

Marcus takes one deep breath after another attempting to settle down his stomach. “I can’t…Him having access to the Heroics database would put so many people in danger. I can’t risk it.”

“Marcus…” But the strangled noise Moreno makes stops Miracle from saying anything else. Marcus pushes through the pain he’s feeling and tries his best to comfort his friend.

“The other heroics will rescue you.”

“But not you.”

“Promise me you’ll keep an eye out for Missy and for my mom.” Marcus’ eyes fill with tears and he takes a second to get his voice under control before he continues talking. “Please Miracle, you have to promise me.”

“You’ll make it out of this one, just hold on.” He needs his friend to hold on, he needs him not to lose hope. But Marcus stares at him with an intensity Miracle did not know a dying man could muster. “I promise.” 

“Thank you.” 

Marcus lets the darkness take him. 

Miracle Guy stares at the Heroics leader, his chest is still moving up and down but he can tell it won’t be for much longer. The door opens a moment later, he is expecting to see their captor and is ready to beg him to help his friend but just as he’s about to talk he sees it’s not the man from before but Lavagirl and Sharkboy. The pair are quick to get them both out of their restraints.
