AN: Tommy is trans in this AU; plot probably not lore accurate as this is my first EVER myct ff
-
Techno just returned from the village market, bringing with him some apples, wheat, eggs, milk and emeralds, when he wasn't greeted by a usually sarcastic comment how long he took and a pesky grin of a blonde small teenage boy, calling him 'dickhead', he knew something was wrong.
He searched their home for the human kid - he sure must be somewhere. Tommy's 13 now and his rebellious side shows more from each day to the other. Though Techno feared the kid might run away when he had enough of him, he knew the boy and there was a vulnerable soft side to him also, which the piglin honestly liked the most.
From his bedroom, he then heard a child's faint crying and entered only to see Tommy, lying on his red large bed, curled up in a fetal position - legs close to his stomach while he sobbed so desperately.
Techno approached him very carefully, running his claw through the boy's curly tangled hair and stroked some strands away to see his face.
"What's the matter, kid?", he asked softly, as he already could guess what might've happened.
Tommy opened his eyes when he met Techno's worried face. Seeing the kid like this, it made something in his chest ache, though he would never admit it to anyone. The boy's nose and cheeks were reddened as if he had a fever, rings under his eyes, thick tears rolled down his cheeks and his lip was trembling.
"Hurts...so much...", Tommy cried, looking up to the piglin in despair.
Techno noticed how the boy had curled his arms in front of his stomach. He knew how much Tommy hated this - he was shocked to find the boy for the first time like this when he turned 12 last year until he read about human anatomy.
Those poor children have to endure such pain every month.
"Your tummy again? It's the time of the month, huh?"
Tommy turned away, clearly uncomfortable about this. He hated his body already, especially since he's a teen now, it got even worse. When he was younger, he never was accepted by any of the kids and adults in the orphanage - that is until he ran away and was found by Technoblade, the infamous Blood God.
The boy wasn't used to showing his emotions to anyone like that, he had always swallowed his pain and suffered in loneliness.
With Techno, it was different. Sure, he had to warm up to him as well and couldn't stand the guy first but he was the only one who got to see that.
"I just want it to stop...", Tommy mumbled into the pillow, still sobbing as his shoulders twitched when a new wave of pain set in.
Techno teached him that it is alright to show emotions, to be vulnerable and soft, even in moments like this. He showed the boy it was okay to cry when he was in pain as his emotions are valid in every way. He wanted the kid to feel safe around him, offering him comfort.
And right now, Tommy could really need a bit of that.
"I know, kiddo, I know", Techno said, stroking the boy's head and face, tucking some of the curls behind his ear, which fell into his face, "But you're so brave about it, my boy."
The piglin stood up and carried a big soft blanket to the bed, covering the boy with it to comfort him a bit. Tommy silently took the offer, burying himself into the blanket and cuddled in it. He was still crying, very lightly - only a few sobs leaving his throat. The pain was still there but started to ease after a while.
Techno sat down next to him on the bed, seeing how comfortable the kid was soon getting. And like this with his tiny body buried in the big blanket, he looked even younger than 13. So much smaller and vulnerable, showing that he was in fact still a child, even when Tommy hated to be treated like a little kid.
How often had he snapped at Techno lately, when he was giving him a lecture, how stupid he was and how he hated him but Tommy never actually meant it. He was still a traumatized kid, he was still learning to live a normal life, to become someone better than the ones who put him into this world.
He was disappointed by everyone in his life so far so it was no wonder when he never trusted anyone, being used to be lied to and abandoned from a very young age.
But Techno tried to at least give him a bit of security, to make him feel loved and even when the piglin god, who had so much blood on his hands, never wanted to have children or a family - it somehow still found him. And he swore, his old heart will break when Tommy really hates him and leaves one day.
He was still watching the kid, brushing his arm and shoulder slowly as he was doing so and Tommy's cries had almost disappeared now, which meant it was working.
"Want me to rub your belly a bit? Maybe that'll help", Techno asked gently as he couldn't think of anything else to help the boy with the pain.
For today, the apothecary was closed but tomorrow, he will get the kid some pain relievers, he thought. At his question, Tommy had nodded in response and turned to the piglin, so he could place his claw on the boy's tummy covered with the blanket, starting to gently stroke him with his thumb.
He already did that the last time, the human child had period cramps and it helped so well. Techno read that warmth also helped to ease the pain, maybe he could try that later as well...
With the softness of the blanket and the gentle touches, Tommy soon was so comforted that he almost was falling asleep. He closed his eyes in relaxation and felt how the pain was almost going away. Secretly, he loved whenever Techno did that, even when we will never confess it out loud.
But it was enough for the piglin to see that the human boy enjoyed this type of tenderness. Tommy then felt a tingle apart from the steady strokes on this tummy and the tickling feeling spread everywhere through his body.
That bastard had tickled him!
The boy could see a sly grin on the piglin's face as he was skittering his claws over Tommy's sides in a smooth movement, his one claw especially brushing against his ribcage which made the boy squeal adorably.
"Maybe I can also tickle away the pain, huh?", Techno teased, knowing how ticklish the kid was as he learned that in the past.
Tommy always said he hated tickling but somehow he still grinned defiantly whenever Techno had tried to as if he was asking for it. He was annoyed how the piglin always got away with it as his body had deceived him several times whenever any of Techno's claws had touched his skin. And even when there was nothing funny about the situation, Tommy always seemed to laugh.
"Techno! That's not how ihihit works!", the boy giggled under the menacingly ticklish touches, seeing how amused the piglin looked with his wide grin revealing his fangs.
"Indeed, it did, you're smiling now, kiddo", he teased under his grin again.
That little game went on for a while until the boy was a giggling mess and the piglin thought it was enough, leaving the kid alone now.
When he stopped, Techno saw how the boy gave him an icy look and he could almost read his mind, which said 'you fuckhead'. For a moment, he thought that he had overdone it with the kid but in the next, Techno found himself in Tommy's embrace.
He hesitated first, as he didn't expect that reaction from the often so snarly kid who always had a cheeky but lovely grin on his face but honestly, he didn't mind at all.

âHas that mystery guy shown any signs of waking up yet?â
âNot yet . . . itâs like heâs stuck in a nightmare, the way he keeps tossing and turning. Still no word from anyone that might know him?â
âNope. Nobody in the village recognizes him.â
âWell, what do we do?â
âWait and see if anyone comes looking, I guess. Or wait for him to finally wake up.â
âAre you sure we should keep him here?â
âItâs not like we have anywhere we could send him . . . otherwise, I wouldnât have brought him in. But who knows if he even has a place to go?â
â. . . Are you thinking he might be like us? Nobody to . . .â
âUntil he wakes up, we canât be sure . . . but I canât really bring myself to even possibly leave him alone like we were.â
On the ferry to Chen's Island for the Tournament of Elements, Garmadon finds himself suspicious of a pair of girls with elements he's never seen before.
AO3 Link
Garmadon was rarely ever this blindsided, given he was somewhere over a thousand years old. That wasnât to say he couldnât be, of courseâa key example being how shocked heâd felt at finally having the evil purged from his veins, something he hadnât dared to Hope was possible for centuries.Â
Another example would be right now, as he stared at the redheaded young woman in front of him who was introducing herself to the ninja as âLily, Master of Sandâand this is my friend Arti, Master of . . . Ink, I think? We figured out it was Ink and not paint, right?â
The shorter brown-haired girl beside her nodded, looking somewhat nervous. âYeah, it was ink . . . Lily why are we doing this Iâm not sure we shouldââ
âRelax, Arti, itâs the Ninja! We can trust them!â Lily gave her companion a comforting smile, before turning back to the teens. âWeâre HUGE fans, itâs so exciting to meet you guys!â
â. . . Nice to meet you, too?â Lloyd replied, giving his teammates a confused lookâand then turning that look to Garmadon. The man shook his head at his son, not wanting to raise any of his suspicions while the girls were still right there. They were young, best not to scare them.Â
âHold on, Ink can be an element?! Really?!â Jay exclaimed incredulously. âWhat, do you . . . what would that even do?â The blue ninja raised a chipped eyebrow.Â
In reply, Arti thought for a moment, before holding up a finger and sketching something in the air, leaving behind a suspended trail of thick, iridescent, dark-blue ink behind. When the girl finished, the image of a fairly cartoony cat was left in front of her, and with a snap of her fingers, the drawing suddenly moved, leaping down from its perch in the air and prowling around Artiâs feet. It had come to life, acting as if it were a real cat and not a simple inked drawing.Â
âTada!â Lily exclaimed, gesturing to her friend proudly. âLiving art! Thatâs so cool, right?!â The redhead then swirled her hand around for a moment, causing a small, colorful whirlwind of sand to spawn above her open palm. âI mean, sand is cool too, but Artiâs ink stuff is WAY cooler.â
These displays only further concerned Garmadon, heightening his suspicion of the two girls. That was absolutely a display of elemental power from both of them, he could feel it . . . but these were no powers he had ever witnessed, or even heard of, in all his life.Â
Until now.Â
These two girls, whom he knew nothing about where they could have come from, were bearing elemental powers that, as far as he knew, did not previously exist.
Needless to say, the sensei was trying very hard not to betray his utter disbelief.Â
âSo, why are you guys coming to the tournament?â Cole asked, bringing Garmadon out of his thoughts.Â
âWell, to be honest, we really donât have any other ideas for what we could be doing, plus we need to actually learn more about our powers, PLUS the whole thing is suspicious as hellââ
âLILYââ Arti hissed at her friend, shooting her a panicked glare. âWhat are you doing?!â
â. . . Answering the question?â Lily looked genuinely confused by the other girlâs outburst. âBecause they asked a queââ
Before she could finish, the brunette covered her mouth and started dragging her off. âSorry, gotta go for now, sorry about all of this it was her ideaâbye!â Arti gave the group a wave, pulling Lily behind her as she left to go somewhere else on the ferry.
Garmadon watched carefully as the pair left, making sure they were assuredly out of earshot before letting out the breath he hadnât even realized he was holding. âThose two . . . worry me . . .â
Lloyd looked up at him quizzically. âHow come, dad? Sure they were . . . kind of weird, but they did seem nice.â
âThey did, yes, but thatâs not what worries me. The issue is specifically their powers.â
âWhatâs wrong with their powers?â Cole asked, turning to face the man.
âThose two elements? Sand, and Ink? Those are elements that I have never seen before, and I have no idea as to where they could have come from.â Garmadon shook his head. âThis is especially concerning because, as far as I knew, I did have knowledge of all of the elements that exist.â
âWait, so those are new elements? Seriously, how much have you guys been keeping from us?!â Jay exclaimed, eyes wide. âThere can also be new elements?!â
âSo it seems,â the sensei replied, nodding somewhat absently. âSo it seems. I believe we need to keep an eye on those two . . . I have a feeling thereâs far more to them than meets the eye.â
Frosted Glass Part 1: Birds of a Feather (Sand & Ink AU)
A museum break in ends up being "for the birds", and the team struggles more than they probably should to take down a certain feathered fiend.
Lily's fangirling does not help any.
AO3 Link
Itâs never a quiet night in Ninjago City. Well . . . itâs usually never a quiet night. Even months after the Oni army and their dark cloud descended on Ninjago City, few incidents ever occurred. Only the pettiest and smallest of crimes popped up here and there, but never anything big.Â
That is. . . Until one fateful night.Â
Far too close to midnight for anyoneâs liking, the ninja received a call from the policeâ someone had broken into the Ninjago City Museum, and had begun ransacking the place!
So naturally, the ninja were on the case. A museum break in? From some unknown criminal, no less? Should be easy-peasy.Â
However. . . As soon as the ninja entered the building, things quickly shifted.
âOH MY GOODNESS ITâS FUGIDOVE!â
The whole team stopped in their tracks to stare at Lily, dumbfounded. Even Arti. Heck, even the criminal in question himself.
âYou know this guy?!â Jay asked incredulously.
âUnfortunately,â Arti remarked.
âOf course I know him! Heâs my favorite guy!â Lily answered, visibly shaking with glee. âOh my goodnessââ
The bird-dressed villain seemed similarly delighted at the recognition. âIt seems my reputation precedes me! Yes, it is I, Fugidove!â he proclaimed, puffing out his chest. âMy cry fills the night!â He let out a loud, yet gentle coo at this, like his namesake bird.
â. . . Okay, then, uh . . . Fugidove . . . we are here to stop you?â Lloyd said awkwardly, trying to get the encounter back on track. âSo weâre gonna have to ask you to stand down.â
âYeah, can we just get this over with?â Nya remarked, already summoning some water to float above her hands.Â
âYouâll have to try to stop me!â Fugidove shot back, spreading his wing-arms wide. (Wait, were those actual wings, or just a costume?)
âOh, gladly,â Arti said, forcing down a yawn. And. . . waiting for Lloydâs signal. It was just one guy after all. She wasnât worried.Â
And then the room was suddenly full of feathers. And birds. And the group erupted into chaos.
âWHAT THE HECKââ
âWHY IS IT ALWAYS BIRDS?!â
âWHERE DID THEYââ
âBehold, my army of feathered friends!â Fugidove declared as the pigeons and doves swarmed the group. âFly, my fellow birds! Fly!â
â. . . How did you manage to acquire so many birds?â Zane asked aloud, sounding both mildly concerned and a bit curious.
âThrough the power of friendship!â the criminal replied happily. âAlso, birdseed.â
âWhy do we keep having to fight birds?!â Kai exclaimed, swinging his katana wildly at the flock to try and drive it back. âFirst Sensei Wuâs crazy chicken, now this?!â
âHey, at least these birds arenât electric?â Cole offered somewhat optimistically.Â
âI LOVE BIRDS!â Lily exclaimed, seemingly not taking the situation seriously at all.
âWell, thatâs unfortunate,â Arti said, blasting a few birds away with her ink. â. . . Hey, wait, where did Fugidove go?â
Sure enough, with his flock of feathered friends serving as a distraction, the villain had vanished further into the museum. Pursuing. . . whatever he broke into the museum for.Â
âCrap, heâs getting away!â Lloyd said, trying to push his way through the birds. âCome on, guys, we gotta catch up!â
âWeâre trying, Lloyd?!â Kai replied, missing yet another bird. âThe birds are in the way!â
âThis is a stupid amount of birds,â Nya grumbled, also failing to hit any of the flock.Â
Jay turned to try and glare at Lily through the flurry of feathers. âLily, will you stop fangirling for FIVE SECONDS and HELP US GET RID OF THE BIRDS?!â
An inky arm reached around the birds, whacking Lily on the head. Arti glared at her friend. âFOCUS!â
âOWâFine, fine, justâfine, Iâll try andâfocus on the birds,â Lily grumbled, whipping up some sand around her. âDonât expect this to help much, though, flyingâs immune to ground,â she dryly joked as she started trying to blind the crowd of birds with the sand.
Enough birds had been knocked down by the ninja, storming through the rest of the museum would be no problem.Â
âWe should split up,â Lloyd said. âWeâll cover more ground that way.â
âDonât split too much!â Lily added. âYou know how things can go downhill if weâre on our own. In several ways.â
âTwo groups of four should work,â Nya said. âThe museum isnât that big.âÂ
âRightââ Lloyd nodded, âMe, Cole, Zane and Arti will take the east wing. Nyaâyou, Jay, Kai and Lily will take the west. And weâll meet up here if we havenât found Fugidove.â
The rest of the team gave various nods and statements of agreement, before the two groups split off to go search.
Kai turned to Lily as their group started on their way to the west wing. âSo . . . how exactly do you know about this Fugidove guy? Are we at the next season, or whatever?â
Lily shook her head. âNo, we avoided the next season by not going to a pyramid. Fugidoveâs just a side character, but I adore him an unreasonable amount. Iâm not joking when I say heâs my favorite guy in the show. Heâs just so fun!â The ginger was still smiling brightly.
â. . . Okay, the bird swarm was pretty creative, Iâll give him that,â Jay said, âbut, what even is this guyâs deal?â
âOh, I have no idea, we never actually see what crimes heâs actually committed in the show. Iâm just excited weâre fighting him!â Lily shrugged. â. . . Though he does have an intense one-sided rivalry with you, Jay.â
âSeriously?!â Jay exclaimed. âIâve never even met the guy, and he thinks weâre rivals?âÂ
âApparently! Thereâs a whole sequence in the anime episode where youâre like Goku fighting him and itâs absolutely glorious.â
âThe WHAT EPISODE?!â
âI think I could have gone without that mental image,â Nya commented.Â
âOh, Goku Jay is probably the least cursed thing in that episode,â Lily merrily replied. âThey made Lloyd buff as hell and itâs just so wrong to look at. Meanwhile Nya isnât buff at all!â
âOh, come on!â Nya crossed her arms.
âI know, right?! Buff Anime Lloyd is notoriously cursed, and while not as talked about, people also mostly agree that you NOT being buff like the others was criminal.â The Master of Sand shuddered. âAnd letâs not talk about Kaiâs Hair.â
âHOW ABOUT WE STOP TALKING ABOUT THISââ Kai interjected, looking immediately horrified at the idea of something being wrong with his hair.
Lily rolled her eyes. âFair, I guess. Arti hasnât even watched this episode out of fear. Even though I keep telling her to watch for the Fugidove content.â
âBack on topic, where should we start searching?â Nya asked. âKruxâs secret lab?â
âNo, thatâs on the other side of the museum, I think,â Kai replied, shaking his head. âSo the others are probably checking.â
âWell, what if we look for birds?â
The other three all turned to stare at Jay quizzically.
âLook, the guy obviously has some sort of thing for birds, so maybe heâs trying to steal something bird-related!â the Master of Lightning explained, holding out his arms. âIt makes sense! Right?â
âThat. . . really does,â Nya said. âThere's probably plenty of art pieces of birds, right?â
âI canât think of any specifically, but that sounds about right!â Lily agreed. âWhere would we find bird art?â
âWhy not the museumâs storage?â Jay suggested. âThat's where Iâd start anyway.â
âGood idea,â Kai replied, nodding. âThereâs a lot of stuff they donât have on display, right?â
The group headed into the storage room. Crates of artifacts piled up close to the ceiling, creating a small maze within the room. Statues and paintings stood against the walls, filling most of the space, making the whole room feel claustrophobic.
Fugidove could be heard talking further into the room, letting them know they were in the right place.
âDo you think this guy has any more birds hiding somewhere?â Jay looked to Lily, hoping for an answer.
âKnowing what I do, anything is possible,â she replied. âSo who knows?â
A swarm of doves could be seen holding up a painting, managing to lift it off the ground and towards the door with Fugidove directing them.
â. . . And thereâs the answer!â Lily added, pointing. âWow, he must really be good friends with the birds, thatâs so cool.â
âHonestly, it is pretty impressive, yeah,â Kai agreed. âSomewhat terrifying that he can direct them so well, but impressive.â
âYeah, well, letâs stop staring and start stopping him!â Nya said, stepping closer to Fugidove and readying her trident.
Fugidove looked up at the approaching quartet of ninja. âAha!â he declared, pointing back at them with his wing-arm. âYouâve caught up to me! Well, donât think that youâll stop me now!â
âSeriously? Weâve dealt with way worse than you.â Jay said, spinning his kusarigama around.Â
âOh, your friends said that too! But I still took care of them.â The criminal shrugged. âI expected more of a fight, actually.â
â
âI cannot FREAKING believe we lost to FUGIDOVE of all people!â Arti ranted. âAfter literally everything else weâve been through!â
â. . . So, we might be a little rusty?â Cole said awkwardly, trying to cheer her up.
âRusty? This is way more than rusty!â Arti sighed. âWeâre completely oxidized!âÂ
âYeah, I think this whole thing just proves even more what Sensei Wu was talking about when he said weâd let ourselves go,â Lloyd agreed, squirming around in the ropes holding the four ninja captive. â. . . Now, how do we get out of this? Cole, can you break us out?â
The Black Ninja strained against the ropes for a second, before frowning. âNope. Sorry.â
âOn analysis, it appears that there are traces of vengestone within the makeup of these bonds,â Zane piped in. âWhich would explain your inability to break them, Cole.â
â. . . How?!â Arti said, shocked. âHow in the world did he get this?!â
The nindroid shook his head. âThat, I cannot answer.â
âGreat,â Lloyd groaned. âJust, great.â
â
â. . . Well, uh, you may have gotten through them, but you still wonât get through us!â Jay retorted, though he looked taken aback by the information.
âYeah, well, weâll finish what they started,â Kai added, lighting his sword on fire. âTime to, uh, fry this poultry? Are doves poultry? Or is that only chickens and stuff?â
âWho cares?â Nya replied. âNinja, GO!â
With her shout, the four flew into action, lunging forward at Fugidove.Â
The doves nearby dropped the painting, and quickly went to intercept the ninja and peck at them. It wasnât nearly as many birds as earlier, but it was still enough to be at the very least a nuisance. Lily quickly stirred up another sand devil around herself to try and blind the birds and stop them from getting in the way.
Fugidove, much to the groupâs surprise, cut through the miniature sandstorm to smack Lily away, sending her sliding across the room. Eventually, she hit a mirror with a rough cracking sound.
Lily shook her head, trying to regain her bearings, before letting out a huff. âOh, come on, how come EVERYONE ends up knocking me into walls?!â she grumbled, getting back to her feetâbefore noticing the now-broken mirror sheâd been thrown into. âCrap, uhâyou guys keep fighting, Iâll fix this, I donât wanna get sued for damages!â
âGot it!â Nya replied, sending a blast of water at the criminal. She managed to hit him squarely in the chest, putting him off-balance.
âGot him!â Jay added, swinging the chain of his kusarigama around Fugidove while he was down.Â
âGotâAGHâgot the birds!â Kai finished, completely covered in doves and pigeons.
Lily glanced over at the others from where she was carefully using her elemental power to repair the mirror. âWow, that was fast, Iâm not even done yet. Makes you wonder how the others apparently lost . . .â
â
As soon as the mirror was repaired, the rest of the storage room was put back in order, and the other half of the team was freed from the vengestone rope that Fugidove had somehow gotten his wings on, the group made their way outside with the captured criminal to turn him over to the police.
âSorry about all this, Fugidove,â Lily was apologizing. âYou really are my favorite guy, but we do have to arrest you. You were trying to commit a crime.â
âLily, why are you apologizing to him?!â Jay asked her incredulously. âHeâs literally a criminal!â
âBut heâs my favorite guy!â Lily repeated, pouting. âAnd I donât want him to be sad!â
Jay groaned at this, shaking his head. âWhy are you like this.â
â. . . Normally Iâd agree, if I didnât get my ass kicked by this guy.â Arti crossed her arms, âI had some geese sicâd on me. Geese! Geese are terrifying!âÂ
âWait, he had geese?â Kai raised an eyebrow. âWe didnât see any geese, just more doves.â
âYou donât wanna know,â Lloyd replied with a shudder. âTrust me. You donât.â
âEither way, I hope we donât have to fight that guy again.â Arti groaned.Â
âAnd if we do, we need to make sure to be back in shape,â Cole added. âBecause I hate to admit it, but that was embarrassing.â
âRelax, guys, weâll be fine,â Lily assured. âLike I told my group, weâve already avoided the canon Season 11, so weâve got plenty of time to train back up before something major happens.â
Back in the storage room, everything was quiet and back in its place. Statues, paintings, and various other artifacts and art pieces carefully organized throughout the stacks and stacks of boxes. The mirror that had gotten cracked during the fight was even fully mended, not a single chip or fracture left as evidence of what had happened.
But not all was truly back to ânormal.â
Long after the ninja had left and the room was locked back up, now unseen by any living eyes, the glassy surface of the mirror suddenly began to shimmer with a cold blue light. If anyone had been there to see it, they would have likely been overcome by an almost supernatural sense of unease and worry at the glow.
The light steadily grew brighter and brighter, the mirror itself shaking as if power was building up to a breaking point within itâ
Before the glass pane shattered, a fist extending outwards from the frame as shards cascaded around them before seemingly dissolving into nothing after hitting the ground.
The owner of the fist slowly pulled themselves out of the now-empty frame, the now nearly blinding blue glow behind them hiding their features in nothing but a silhouette. As soon as they were out, they began taking in their form with some sort of fascination, a dark chuckle escaping them.
The figureâs chuckle steadily grew into a full laugh the more they saw, the temperature suddenly dropping as a cold wind began to swirl around them, frost forming under their feet. It was like a snowstorm was spinning to life around them, freezing the room.
âWell . . . this certainly is a new development, isnât it?â
Lloyd walks in on his father actively shapeshifting and has several questions.
Or: Lloyd learns about his otherworldly heritage quite a bit earlier than canon because Sensei Garmadon is still alive.
(Part of Sand & Ink, but can also be read as standalone)
AO3 Link
Lloyd had certainly seen a lot during his time as the Green Ninja so far. Race of snake-people that he accidentally unleashed in an attempt to be evil? Check. Indestructible army of statues commanded by the literal embodiment of evil? Also check. The robot uprising, a cult who wanted to turn into snakes, ghosts trying to bring Hell itself into Ninjago? Check, check, and check again!
However, one thing he definitely hadnât expected to see a repeat of was the sight of his dad having four arms again.
Also, just generally looking like he used to back when he was an evil warlord, but he noticed the four arms first, okayâ
âDad, whatâwhat are youââ he found himself stammering, unable to coherently put together a sentence at the extremely confusing sight of his decidedly-not-evil-anymore father looking, well, evil again.
Garmadon whirled around to face the blonde, a mix of shock and what seemed to be embarrassment on his face. âLloyd?! What are you doing in here, Iââ The expression morphed to also include panic as he glanced down at himself. âOh no . . . Lloyd, I swear that this isnât what it looks likeââ
âDad, why do you look like this again?!â Lloyd finally managed to ask, staring up at his currently-demonic-looking father with what was probably one of the most baffled looks of all time. âAndâand how?!â
âI promise, I am not actually evil again, I am practicingâhow about I just show you, actually, that should help.â Garmadon shook his head, before closing his eyes as if to focus. He suddenly started glowing with a soft white light that engulfed his entire form, and said now-indistinguishable form started shrinking before his eyes, before the light finally faded to reveal Lloydâs father returned to his human self. âThere. Thatâs better.â
Lloyd felt like his eyes were about to bug out of his head. âWHAT.â
Garmadon gave him a somewhat sheepish smile, rubbing the back of his neck. âIâm sorry that you ended up walking in on me during . . . that . . .â he apologized, shaking his head again. âI thought I had locked the door, but it appears that I didnât.â
âDad, what was that?!â Lloyd demanded, unconsciously taking a step back. âYouâare my dad, right, and notâsome kind of shapeshifter trying to trick me?â There was a Master of Form, after all, it could be possible.
âYes, Lloyd, I promise itâs me,â hopefully-actually-Garmadon replied with a nod. âDo you need me to provide any proof?â
âMaybe? Iâm not sureâuh, what did they deny giving you at Chenâs island during breakfast?!â he asked on the spot, trying to come up with something to use for proof.
âCreamy biscuits,â the man answered without missing a beat, chuckling a little. âDoes that help?â
Lloyd relaxed a bit, letting out a sigh of relief. âOkay, yeah, itâs you . . . but, wait, how did you do that?!â
âWell, over the past few weeks or so, Iâve started attempting to better embrace our heritageâmore specifically, the Oni side,â Garmadon explained. âI finally feel comfortable enough that it shouldnât somehow reignite the evil that used to flow through my veins to start . . . experimenting, if you will.â
The Green Ninja blinked, unsure what his dad was talking about. âThe what side? What about our heritage?â he asked, somehow feeling even more confused than he was before.
âThe Oni side, Lloyd, donât youââ The man stopped mid-sentence, a look of annoyed realization coming over him. âOh, curse it all . . . we havenât told you about your heritage from the First Spinjitzu Master yet? Iâd expect as much from Wu, but I also havenât mentioned it yet?â
âI mean, I know that he was your dad and my grandfather, but not really anything else,â Lloyd replied with a frown. âAnd it sounds like thereâs more to it than that from what youâre saying . . .â
âIndeed, thereâs much more to it than that,â Garmadon agreed, shaking his head. âWould you like to have some tea while we sit and talk? Thereâs quite a lot I need to tell you.â
âThat sounds good, yeah. Iâll go get us some.â
One acquisition of freshly-brewed tea later, father and son were soon seated across from each other at the table.
âSo . . .â Lloyd stared down at his teacup awkwardly, unsure what to say.
Garmadon chuckled. âDonât look so nervous, Lloyd. Youâll be fine.â
âYeah, I know, I just . . . this feels kinda sudden.â He shrugged, looking back up at his dad.
âIt is, yes . . . but itâs about time someone told you all of this.â The man took a sip of tea. âNow, our story begins long before time had a name, even before your grandfather, the First Spinjitzu Master, created Ninjago. After all, this story begins even before his birth.â
â. . . Thatâs. A long time ago.â Lloyd tried to wrap his head around how long it could be.
âIndeed it was. But, back then, before any of the other Sixteen Realms existed, there was the First Realm.â
âThe . . . first realm?â he repeated, his eyes widening. âWoah.â
âTwo types of being called this realm home,â Garmadon continued. âThe Dragons, with the powers of Creation, and the Oni, with the powers of Destruction. Thus, the First Realm was also known as the Realm of the Oni and the Dragon.â
Lloyd nodded, trying to follow along. Oni and dragon . . . he knew a lot about dragons, but heâd never heard anything about what an oni was before. âWhat exactly are the Oni, dad?â
âItâd be easiest to compare them to some sort of demon, Iâd say, though not all of them necessarily act demonic. Visually, I could more specifically describe them as looking like a more monstrous version of how I looked when I was a dark lord.â
â. . . So like how you looked when I first came in?â Lloyd deduced.
âNot exactly like that, but yes,â Garmadon replied, before going back to the story. âNow, the Dragons and the Oni were diametrically opposed, which led to a nearly endless war between the two.â He held up a hand, pausing for emphasis. âBut not all of what happened between them was conflict, you see. One day, a child was born of both Oni and Dragon, a child who learned and understood that you could not have Creation without Destruction. A child who would flee the war in the First Realm, instead creating a new land to call home in a new realm. A realm that you should know very well.â
âI should?â Lloyd thought for a minute, trying to piece it together . . . âWait, do you mean Ninjago?â
Garmadon nodded with a smile. âIndeed, it was Ninjago.â
âThen that means . . . the child was the First Spinjitzu Master!â
âExactly. And, as his lineage, you and I, as well as your Uncle Wu, also have both Oni and Dragon blood within us. I am more connected to my Oni side, while Wu is more connected to his Dragon sideânot that he has any idea what that actually means.â The man let out a snort, rolling his eyes. âI at least had an excuse for never choosing to explore my abilities, given I feared they would speed up the corruption of the Devourerâs venom, but he does not. Iâm fairly convinced that he never actuallyââ
âWait, back up,â Lloyd interrupted. âWeâIâm part Dragon?! And Oni?â
Garmadon nodded again. âYes, you are. And so am I. This is probably quite a revelation, isnât it?â He reached out and gently grabbed Lloydâs hand. âItâs alright, son.â
âButâhow does that work?! I mean, I look human, right? How am I partââ
âOni have the innate ability to alter their form, Lloyd,â Garmadon explained. âIn fact, thatâs what I was practicing when you walked in.â
â. . . Oh,â he said, nodding in understanding. âThat . . . makes sense, yeah . . . wait, does that mean I could shapeshift, too?â
âWith proper practice? Itâs possible,â Garmadon said. âYou might be less Oni and Dragon than Wu and I, but thereâs at least some likelihood that you could alsoââ
âHey, Lloyd, there youâoh, hi Sensei, I was looking for Lloyd.â
The pair seated at the table turned to find that Kai was now standing in the it-looks-like-they-forgot-to-lock-the-door-AGAIN doorway, looking over the scene a bit curiously.
âWhat are you guys up to?â the Red Ninja asked, raising an eyebrow. âOr is it private family stuff?â
âWe were just having a discussion, thatâs all,â Garmadon replied. âDo you need my son for something?â
âWell, Nya and I are gonna spar for a bit, and I wanted to know if Lloyd wanted to join us,â Kai said, glancing over at the blonde. âAre you interested?â
Lloyd started to nod, but then paused to look back at his dad.
âWe can talk more about this later, Lloyd, donât worry.â Garmadon smiled at him.
âAlright, thanks dad!â The blonde got to his feet, waving to the man as he followed Kai out.
They werenât that far down the hall when Kai turned to Lloyd and asked, âSo, what were you guys talking about?â
Lloyd shrugged. âFamily stuff. Itâs pretty deep, Iâm still trying to process it . . .â Then a devious thought hit him, and he grinned. âHey, Kai, did you know Iâm part dragon?â
âReally? Huh, thatâs cool.â They kept walking for a moment, before Kai stopped in his tracks and whirled around to face Lloyd in shock. âWait, WHAT?!â
Nya came by pretty quickly wondering what Lloyd was laughing so hard about.

On one hand, Lloyd hasn't been possessed. On the other hand, Arti has been possessed.
Lily finds herself scrambling to regain control of the situation, only to land herself in even more trouble and unable to change as much as she hoped.
AO3 Link
Well. This was bad.
On one hand, theyâd successfully kept Lloyd from getting possessed by Morro.
But on the other hand, NOW ARTI WAS POSSESSED INSTEAD!
Needless to say, Lily was not happy. She was the opposite of happy. She was, in fact, terrified by the sudden realization that Morro now had, at the very least, a passing knowledge of the events to come, which was very very bad.
Still staring at the spot where Morro-possessing-Arti (Marti? Honestly that was the best she had off the top of her head) had last been standing before just. Well. Disappearing, Lily felt paralyzed as her anxiety began to kick into overdrive.
Dear chaos weâre utterly doomed Morro has Arti and by extension he has everything Arti knows and that means that he might be able to get ahead of us and we canât stop him weâre DOOMEDâ
âLily!â The ginger looked up to find Lloyd was holding her shoulders, looking at her with concern. âAre you alright?â
Still feeling somewhat out of it from the sudden panic she was experiencing, she quickly shook her head. âNope. I am not okay. Morro took Arti. At least he didnât take you but now he took Arti. And he might be able to beat us to the Realm Crystal depending on how much Arti remembers of the details. So I am not okay. I am terrified. Andââ
âOkay, that sounds pretty bad,â Lloyd agreed. âBut you also know what happens, right? So weâre still even!â
. . . That was a good point. âTrue. I do know more than Arti. Thanks.â Lily felt a wave of relief come over her as the Green Ninja helped her to her feet. âThank you for reminding me.â
âSo, what do you think we should do?â the boy prompted, probably trying to help her calm down further by getting her to think more strategically or something.
âWell, first, we should find the others. In canon, once you got possessed, they lost their powers so they went back to the tea shop on their own. But here, they arenât going to lose their powers since we kept you safe, so we need to find and tell them ourselves.â Lily had been planning out what might need to happen ever since theyâd gotten the phone call confirming that Morro was actually still going to be an issue, so she already had this in mind. âThen we need to head back to the tea shop and tell Wu that Morro is back as a ghost because I think we forgot to tell him that before we left.â
âThat sounds like a good plan, I figured we should do the same thing and find the guys.â The blonde gave her a confident smile. âTheyâre out giving out fliers, right? It shouldnât be too hard to find them with those teapots on their heads.â
The reminder of the stupid employee outfits that the others were wearing right now made her burst out with a chuckle. âChaos, I almost forgot they would still be in those! Yeah, we should be able to find them easily, no doubt.â
-----
True to what both of them thought, it was very easy to find the other four ninja. After all, Lily knew for a fact that Zane would be flying around on his Elemental Dragon, so they just had to, well, look for the dragon.
Lily walked up behind Kai, who was still doing firebreather tricks to impress the crowd, and tapped him on the shoulder. âHey. Kai.â
The Master of Fire jumped at the contact, whirling around to face the girl. âAGHâLily, what the heck?!â he demanded. âI was in the middle of somethingâand when did you get here?!â
âSo, Arti got possessed by a vengeful emo ghost, and we need to head back now.â
Kai blinked at her, looking like he thought she was crazy. Which was admittedly his usual reaction to whenever Lily said anything odd and out-of-pocket. âIâm sorry, Arti got possessed?â
âYeah, originally it was Lloyd who got possessed, but we managed to avoid that, but in return Arti ended up possessed instead, and we gotta get back to the tea shop to warn Wu that his old student is back for revenge.â Lily counted each thing she said on her fingers as she went, before looking up at Kai. âIt makes sense, I promise, and the reason we didnât warn you about this being possible ahead of time is that we didnât realize weâd actually end up facing the guy until the call for Lloyd came in earlier.â
â. . . Oh, so this is one of your future knowledge things,â Kai realized, nodding in sort-of-understandingâbefore freezing and shooting her a concerned look. âWait, it was almost Lloyd?!â
âYes, but we kept that from happening, please follow along, and help me get the others so we can get back and hopefully beat Morro there!â
âAlright, alright!â Kai held out his hands defensively, then realized he was still holding the torch, which he quickly passed back to the street performer Lily knew heâd borrowed it from. âIâm not sure I entirely follow, but if Lloyd was almost in trouble, and Arti is in trouble, then letâs do something about it.â
âGood.â Lily smiled. âLloydâs trying to round up the other guys, then we better run back.â
-----
Lily tried her best to explain to the others exactly what they would be facing as they all flew back to Steep Wisdom, trying to make sure they knew enough about Morro to not be caught off guard as she rode behind Lloyd on his Elemental Dragon.Â
âGiven heâs using a body, we wonât have to face much ghost stuff, but heâs still really formidable in his own right. Heâs the Elemental Master of Wind, and saying heâs a master of it is pretty darn correct.â Lily shook her head. âOne thing I can remember him clearly doing with his powers is using a whole freaking windmill blade as a shuriken.â
âAnd you didnât tell us about this guy until now, why?!â Jay demanded, sounding a mix of frantic and aggravated.Â
âWell, Arti and I had assumed that since the Battle of the Corridor of Elders never happened here, that he wouldnât have had any way out of the Cursed Realm!â Lily retorted to her fellow redhead ninja. âWe didnât actually realize heâd still get out somehow and become a problem until the museum called today, okay?!â
âOkay, okay, I get it . . .â The Blue Ninja rolled his eyes. âBut you could have told us before you left!â
âWe were panicking over the realization that Season 5 was actually happening! Give us some slackââ
âGuys, how about we stop arguing and focus on the actual issue at hand?â Cole interjected, trying to shut things down before they could escalate. âFor now, just focus on trying to stop this Morro guy and get Arti back.â
At this point, theyâd reached the tea shop. The boys all landed and dispelled their dragons, Lloyd making sure to wait until Lily had hopped off first, and the whole group ran inside.
âSensei!â
âIt's an emergency!â
âWe need you!â
âIt's important!â
âGuys, wait up!â
Misako looked up from behind the counter where sheâd been packing a bag of tea leaves for a mother and daughter. âBoys, not so loud!â the woman said with a chuckle, shaking her head. âCanât you see we have our first customers?â
The little girl looked up at the team in awe. âWow, the real ninja!â she exclaimed as she approached Jay, who was closest to her.
Lily interrupted before Jay could say anything. âMaybe later, okay? Right now we have some really important news we need to bring our teacher.â
The little girl looked a bit disappointed, but nodded. âOkay!â
âOh, I didnât expect you all back so soon.â Ah, there was Sensei Wu, entering with another bag of tea leaves. âDid advertising go well?â
âAdvertising is the least of our worries at the moment, Sensei,â Zane answered. âThere are far more serious matters to attend to.â
Lloyd nodded. âYeah, the museum was a setup, and Arti got possessed.â
âYeah, uhââ Lily added, cringing slightly. âProbably should have mentioned this before we went, but you know Morro? Your old student? Heâs back.â
The speed at which Wu turned to look at the Master of Sand was almost instantaneous. âWHAT?!â The old manâs eyes looked like they were nearly about to pop out of his head in shock.
âYeah uh he was a ghost in the cursed realm and Arti and I assumed he wouldnât be able to escape because of what we were able to change but apparently he did, and now heâs possessed Arti and heâs coming here for both revenge and also heâs after the staff you got from your dad cause it has the directions to the Realm Crystal on itââ
âHold on, can we back up? What do you mean by âold studentâ?â Jay demanded. âYou didnât mention that on the way here!â
âBecause it wasnât as relevant as âoh by the way the ghost possessing Arti has wind powersâ?!â Lily let out a groan. âIâm trying to explain things as needed! Okay?!â
âWell, excuse me for wanting to know!â
âGuys, stop it, itâs not the timeââ
âSorry about this, they fight sometimesââ
âWhat in the world is happening in here?!â
âHi dad, itâs a long storyââ
âENOUGH!â Sensei Wu slammed his staff on the ground, causing everyone to go silentâincluding Garmadon, who had apparently walked in during the argument. âLily, how much time do we have until he arrives?â
âNot much, pretty sure he showed up just a few minutes after the guys in canon.â Lily shook her head. âWe need to get ready to get out of here, and start making our way towards . . . weâll figure it out on the way, thereâs a lot weâll need to discuss. On the bright side, we did prevent Lloyd from being the one possessed, so we do have the advantage of everyone still having their powers to counter whatever knowledge Morro gets from being in Artiâs head.â
Wu nodded. âThen thereâs no time to wasteââ
âIâm sorry, what was that about Lloyd?â Sensei Garmadon interrupted, shooting Lily a concerned look.
âLloyd was almost possessed but Arti and I went with him to keep him from being possessed but then Arti got possessed instead. So now we have an emo ghost after us.â
Garmadon was silent for a moment. â. . . And you didnât warn us ahead of time why, exactly?â
âThatâs what Iâve been saying!â Jay agreed, throwing up his hands.
âLook, I already told the guys, but we legitimately didnât think that this would still happen because of how we avoided certain things back with the tournament,â Lily hissed, sounding extremely frustrated to be repeating herself for probably at least the third time today. âAnd when we did realize, we were more immediately concerned with keeping Lloyd from being possessed!â
âI understand, Lily, I was just wondering,â Garmadon replied gently. âThank you for protecting my son.â
âI mean, Arti did more of the protecting than me, given she got in the way directly and took the metaphorical bulletââ
âUh, guys? I think Artiâsâer, Morroâsâhere,â Kai said from where he was watching at the window, pointing to a figure approaching down the road. âSo whatever weâre doing, we better do it now.â
The sky had darkened completely, with black clouds blocking any shred of sunlight, heralding the vengeful ghostâs arrival. Even from a distance, Lily could tell that Morro hadnât even bothered disguising himself like he had at first in canon. After all, the ninja knew he was coming this time, and he was probably very aware of that, so why bother?
âThe staff is our number one priority,â Lily stated, clenching her fists as she watched the twisted form of her possessed friend slowly making herâhis? Their? Its? way up the path to the shop, before turning back to the others. âI donât know if heâll still really need it entirely? Given heâs got what Arti knows? But just in case. At the very least, we need to make a rubbing as soon as we can. Then, Nya, get the bounty ready, we need to try and get as far ahead as we can. Boys, we need to hold him off as long as possible, and possibly get him out of Arti if we can figure out how on Earth to do that mid-battle. Which is unlikely, but possible maybe? I donât think I remember any way to force a depossession in canon, maybe I could homebrew a spellââ
âWait, what about the customersââ Cole interjected, before realizing that theyâd vanished.
âI think Misakoâs already helping get them out of here, sheâs gone too,â Lily replied. âSorry for talking so much, but, as you know, I talk a lot, and thereâs a lot I needed to say. Are we ready?â
The other five ninja, plus two senseis, all looked at each other and nodded.
âYeah, weâre ready,â Lloyd answered for all of them.
âThen letâs do our bestââ
Then the front doors burst open with a forceful gust, and suddenly there was no time to talk anymore, because oh crap Morro was now right there that was fast.
Arti under Morroâs control could have been a completely different person. Her hair had been stained black due to the ghostâs influence, her skin tinged with a pale green with brighter green marks around her eyes, a tattered cloak covering up the Allied Armor and her gi. Despite likely knowing the others were expecting him, he practically waltzed into the tea shop. Fully confident in whatever he was planning.Â
âIâm sure you know what Iâm here for.â That voice was very distinctly not Artiâs, deeper and far more masculine, with an otherworldly edge. âLetâs just get this over with.â
âOh, hi Morro, I didnât expect you to just barge in,â Lily snapped back, trying to channel her panic into anger instead. Sand started whirling around her feet, like it tended to do nowadays when she got emotional. âArtiâs info not enough for you, Iâm guessing?â
Morroâs irritation with his host was barely hidden. âIt was enough.âÂ
âHow about you let our friend go?!â Kai demanded, lighting a hand on fire. âBecause donât think we havenât fought each other before!â
âI think this is different than sparring, Kai!â Jay nervously cut in, yelling at the Red Ninja.
âAgreed. During sparring, we typically hold back,â Zane added, âbut I doubt that our intruder would plan to do the same here.â
âGuys, focus!â Lloyd shook his head. âLet her go, Morro. We all know itâs me you wanted, not Arti.â
âLloyd, donât you dareââ
âIf she LET ME, I would gladly have left by now!â Morro snapped. âBut no. I have to make do with this.âÂ
At this point, Wu stepped forward, holding his staff protectively behind his back. âI see you've found the Allied Armor, Morro, yet you haven't summoned your friends.â
âOh,â Morro started, regaining some semblance of composure, âI donât think Iâll need to.â
âWeâll see about that!â Lily retorted. âThe ninja have their powers this time, so this fight might be a lot more uneven than you realize.â And with that, she launched herself forward at her possessed friend, sand swirling around her hand like a fist.
âYes, weâll see.â Morro said, with an effortless wave of his hand, a gust of wind strong enough to push Lily backwards blew throughout the room.Â
âAGHââ The Master of Sand let out a groan as she found herself thrown against the wall by the force of the gale, before sliding down and slumping over. She was still conscious, thankfully, but her head and back were screaming at her from the impact, and her ears were ringing from some sort of whiplash. âOw . . . stupid . . . wind powers . . .â
âLILY!â one of the others yelled out, but she couldnât tell which one with how her head was spinning. Man, why was she so out of it suddenly? Sheâd been training a lot, sheâd been taking impacts like this for at least a month now, right? Huh . . .
âGuys, we gottaââ
ââone help Lily!â
âSENSEI!â
ââget the staff!â
âHurryââ
It was hard to follow what was going on around her at this point. Everything felt kinda fuzzy.
Huh. Was this maybe what a concussion was like?Â
She didnât know.
Oh. Everything was starting to fade now.
And then Lily fell forward, and everything blacked out.
-----
â. . . think sheâs coming to!â
âThank goodnessââ
âI would recommend givingâespecially sensitiveââ
Lily let out a low groan as she tried to open her eyes, blinking in the harsh light. âI . . . huh . . . ?â
âLILY!â at least a couple of the ninja surrounding her exclaimed, making her wince at the volume.
âWe were so worried!â Nya added, the other girl coming into focus as she helped the Master of Sand sit up. âApparently, you got a concussion when Morro knocked you against the wall, so you missed a lot.â
âI . . . wait, what?â
What was that about Morro?
. . . Oh. Oh, she remembered now. Morro had possessed Arti. Right.
Oh.
â. . . How did the fight go?â Lily asked, before wincing and putting a hand to her forehead. âOw . . .â
âIt was pretty close, but Morro managed to get away with the staff,â Cole replied, shaking his head. âHe seemed pretty winded when he escaped, thoughââ
âHah, wind-ed!â Jay laughed, pointing at Cole.
Cole shot the Blue Ninja a deadpan look. âYes, winded. Very funny, Jay.â
âJokes aside,â Lloyd cut in, shaking his head, âyeah, we didnât manage to keep the staff away from him.â
âYou did your best, son. All of you did.â Garmadon gave the Green Ninja a pat on the shoulder. âAt the very least, we managed to copy the engraving before he could get away.â
The throbbing pain in Lilyâs head was finally starting to subside, and she could better see where they all were now. It seems like they were in the clearing where the Bounty crashed in canon, or at least somewhere similar. Everyone was seated around a campfire, with the Bounty itself crashed into several trees a ways above.
âMan, how much did I miss?â the redhead asked, slowly panning her gaze over everyone.
âOh, yeah, the Bounty crashed,â Jay stated, pointing out the obvious.
âYeah, I can see that . . . just like canon. I feel like I should make a joke or something about the chances of that, but my head still hurts too much.â Lily slowly shook her head. âMan, I do not want to have another concussion if I can help it, this sucks.â
âWhile you were unconscious, Sensei Wu was also able to tell us the story of him having Morro as his pupil,â Zane stated. âIs this something youâre also aware of, or do you require a summary?â
âOh, yeah, no, donât worry,â she replied, trying to sit herself up more comfortably against the log theyâd had her resting her head on. âI know that part. Itâs practically half the second episode from what I remember.â
âUnderstood.â The nindroid gave her a nod. âThough once you feel better recovered, we would appreciate being able to hear anything you have to add, as well.â
âTrust me, Iâm willing,â Lily assured. âThereâs a lot we have to talk about, and I can think of at least a couple ways we can still try to get a leg up on Morroââ
Only to grimace as another spike of pain ran through her head.
â. . . Though I might need an ice pack first,â she admitted with a sigh. âOw.â
She tried her best to look angry as she shot a now-snickering Jay a glare.
A brainstorming session for how to defeat Nadakhan suddenly takes a turn for the worse when one of the three remaining ninja finally breaks down from the pressure.
AO3 Link
âOkay,â Nya started again, âhereâs a crazy one: what if we wish to resurrect the Devourer? Then we sic it on Nadakhan?â
Lily shot Nya a dumbfounded look, like the Master of Water was utterly insane. âNya, what the hell?! Why would that be a good idea, in literally ANY timeline?!â
Jay finished the handful of chips he was chewing, and nodded in agreement with the redhead. âCanât do it, either. Can't wish to do harm, can't wish for more wishes. And you can't wish for . . .â He chuckled to himself awkwardly for a second. âLove. Which is how I got us into this mess. All due to just one little glimpse into the future showing us togetherââ
âJay, can you please let it go for now already, I am DONE with the freaking SOAP OPERA?!â Lily interrupted him, taking the Blue Ninja aback with the sudden rage in her voice. âLook, yes, you blame yourself, I blame myself too because we didnât warn you guys well enough, and now itâs literally just us three left of the team! And I donât appreciate being stuck here third-wheeling the drama, in a situation I was hoping we could avoid!â The redhead groaned, burying her face in her hands. âLook, we donât even know if that future you saw is even guaranteed anymore, alright?! And not for any reasons happening right now, I can assure you! So please, just SHUT UP!â
Nya and Jay stared at the Master of Sand in stunned silence for a minute as she tried to breathe and recollect herself.
â. . . Lily, are you okay?â Nya asked, setting down the pudding she had been holding.
âNo, Iâm not, I am this close to a mental breakdown, and I would rather we focus on how to stop Nadakhan than any romantic drama you two are trying to work out, okay?!â
âAlright, alright, we get it,â Jay worriedly agreed, sharing a nervous glance with Nya. âSo what do you think we should do?â
âI mean, Iâd say âwe could try to pull a Euanâ, but literally none of us know enough about that kind of firepower to actually put that kind of a plan into practice, plus Arti and I never did actually figure out how that all goes down and I donât think any of us can match Euanâs sheer level of insanity or Mercyâs level of spite in a way that we can cause Nadakhan grief in the way they were going toââ
â. . . Can you repeat that in a way we can understand, please?â the Master of Water asked dryly, though Jay could guess that she also knew as well as him that this tangent probably wouldnât amount to anything.
âWell, do either of you know how to make nuclear missiles or what Persian wedding customs are? Because Iâd assume not.â She turned her back to them, shaking her head.
â. . . Fair enough,â Nya conceded with a nod. âThough, you could just wish to know about those things, couldnât you?â
âYeah, you kept all your wishes while everyone else was wasting them!â Jay added. âThat wasââ
âALRIGHT, LOOK.â Lily slammed her hand down on the table, whirling back around to face the duo, her eyes wild and her tone accusatory. âDo you actually realize how hard that was for me?! How hard it was to not start wishing like the rest of the group?!â
Jay was so startled nearly fell backwards out the window, barely catching himself in time. âHey, I didnât mean it like that!â he backpedalled, holding out his hands defensively. âI was trying to compliment you for self-restraintââ
âWELL MAYBE IT DOESNâT FEEL LIKE A COMPLIMENT TO ME, OKAY?!â Lily stormed over to the Master of Lightning, glaring at him and clenching her fists. âDO YOU NOT THINK THAT MAYBE THEREâS MORE TO IT AS TO WHY IâVE BEEN TRYING NOT TO MAKE A SINGLE WISH?! THAT MAYBE, IF I SLIP UP AND START WISHING, IâLL INEVITABLY WISH THAT I COULD JUST GO HOME?!â
The silence was deafening for a moment, before Lily suddenly collapsed to her knees, weakly starting to cry.
âI . . . I just want to go home,â she repeated, her eyes starting to tear up. âI just know that if I start wishing, Iâm going to want to be selfish and wish that I could just go home and see my family again . . . but that would leave all of you here to still deal with Nadakhan without any help, and it would leave Arti here alone and I donât even know if she wants to go home, andâand I also donât even know if it would STICK, because in canon all of this ends up not having happened in the end and only you two remember it and I donât know if that would change and if we donât change things enough that will still be the case and if I left we probably couldnât change things enough, and so would I even be able to go home?! I donât know! And I might not even know what I missed out on! And IâI just want to see my family again, okay?!â
The young womanâs anxious rambling devolved into choked sobbing, burying her face into her chest.
Nya shot Jay a concerned look, before coming up behind the sobbing girl to try and help her sit up. âI . . . we had no idea, Lily, Iâm so sorry . . .â
Jay felt like heâd been punched in the gut by the rant. Just how long had the Master of Sand been feeling like this?! Sheâd always seemed so excited and carefree up to now, no matter the situation, but this . . . just how long had she been keeping all of this bottled up?!
And heâd been so stupid as to try and compliment her self-restraint. Heâd just assumed she was trying to put her âoutside knowledgeâ to good use, he hadnât even considered that there could have been another reason for it, and now he felt awful, even though he couldnât have known.
âIâm sorry, too, Lily, IâI didnât realizeââ he stammered, trying to scramble to his feet. âIf weâIâif any of us had known, weâdâI donât even know, okay, but why havenât you told us?! I think everyone would understandââ
Lily didnât reply, continuing to try and gasp for air as she sobbed on the floor. Nya managed to help her sit up, letting the older girl lean against her, before motioning to Jay to sit down, too. The Blue Ninja obliged, sitting on the other side of the redhead to help support her.
And they didnât say anything else. They just let Lily cry.
Because it seemed like this was the first time sheâd let herself cry in a long time.
Cole didn't expect to end up working in an underground noodle factory after losing in the tournament. He expected one of the other losers-turned-workers giving him a lesson on the mechanics of the multiverse and fiction even less.

Cole has certainly been experiencing a whirlwind of emotions on being brought into the factory. Confusion, then anger, then joy, then despair, and now finally boredom as he stood there chopping noodles as the currently-former Master of Sound, Jacob, kept talking about his plan to break out of here.
âAnd thenââ the blind man continued, only to be cut off by someone groaning further down the line.
âJacob, I swear. I have told you several times already, you are not going to freaking try to escape on your own. Itâs not gonna work.â Turning to look, Cole found Lily, the redheaded Master of Sand, standing over on the opposite side of Jacob, her arms folded as she gave the man a deadpan glare. âSeriously, how many times am I gonna have to repeat myself?â
âSo you just want to stay stuck here in the factory forever, huh?â the man shot back at her. âBecause I sure donât!â
âI didnât say that,â Lily refuted, shaking her head. âIâve just been saying that trying to escape on your own isnât gonna work. Not that escapeâs gonna be impossible. We are gonna eventually get out of here, together.â
âAnd how you know this?â Karlof cut in, sounding skeptical. âYou sound certain.â
âLook, I justââ The girl paused, blinking, suddenly noticing Cole standing next to karlof as she turned around to look. âWait, Coleâs here already? Wow, that was a fast evening . . . you still lost, huh?â She nodded to herself, looking pensive. âI figured thatâd be the case, but I wasnât entirely sure if itâd change or not.â
âYeah, I loââ Cole paused, taking in all of what Lily had just said. â. . . Wait, what do you mean I still lost?â He let go of the lever heâd been working, turning to fully face the Master of Sand. âThat implies you knew I was going to lose.â
âWell, yeah, I did knoâoh chaos we never did explain ANYTHING, did we.â Lilyâs eyes widened in realization, and she facepalmed. âArtiâs kept on telling me ânot to spoil thingsâ and âwe canât trust anyone here itâs freaking CHENâS ISLANDâ but like. We seriously havenât even mentioned at least that we already knew what was happening before we even got here?!â
âYou WHAT?!â Cole exclaimed, jaw dropping in shock. âWhat do you mean you knew?! Why didnât you tell anyone?!â
âI mean, I wanted to tell people, but Arti didnât want to risk messing anything up and she did kind of have a point because honestly, A), who would have believed us at first, and B), that would just have Chen onto us if he knew we knew.â Lily shrugged. âI still think we should have at least told you guys, thoughâyou and the other ninja, I mean. Cause you guys ended up being onto Chen as well pretty much immediately.â
âIâbut how did you know?! I know you guys ended up finding the secret tunnels with us and all, butââ The Black Ninja could only gape at the redhead, trying to puzzle out what ways she could have possibly learned about all this before anyone else.
âWell, itâs . . . REALLY complicated. Like, might-make-me-sound-like-a-lunatic complicated. Heck, thereâs a reason we just kinda coined âFictional Coincidenceâ as a full-on term on theâwait.â Cole watched as the girlâs expression slowly shifted into one of excited realization. âWait, hold onâI GET TO TELL PEOPLE ABOUT FICTIONAL COINCIDENCE.â
Cole, Jacob, and Karlof all sort of stared at Lily in different levels of visible confusion at her sudden outburst, none of them really sure how to react to the level of enthusiasm she was now showing.
âAlright, guys, youâre going to want to pay attention and this may be kind of mind blowing but so help me this is probably a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity because I get to, in real life, TELL PEOPLE ABOUT FICTIONAL COINCIDENCE.â Lily had started holding herself steady against the noodle machine, breathing heavily as she seemed to be trying to collect herself. âOh my goodness this is absolutely insane, I never thought Iâd get to do anything like this outside of roleplayâso!â The girl clapped her hands together, before ducking over to the other side of the conveyor belt.
â. . . So, do either of you guys have any idea what sheâs doing,â Cole whispered to the men on either side of him, âor are we all lost here?â
âKarloff have no clue,â the Master of Metal on his left said with a shrug. âGirl has been ranting about stuff that make no sense since she get here.â
âAlright, boys, listen up!â Lily exclaimed, clapping her hands again. âSo, who here knows about the multiverse theory, aka, the idea that there exists an infinite number of possible universes in the greater multiverse at large?â
Cole furrowed his brow. âI think Iâve seen something like that in movies?â
âGood, thatâs a basic enough understanding. I could go more in-depth about universal systems and stuff, but thatâs not important to the topic, so forget I brought that up cause I donât know why I just did. Anyways, the multiverse is real.â
There was a moment of silence, as if Lily was waiting for comments or questions or something like that.
â. . . Nobodyâs gonna react to that? Okay. I was expecting more of a response.â
âKarloff not really following,â Karloff admitted. âKarloff not seen many movies.â
âIâve been to the Underworld before,â Cole explained.
âYes, I know you have, I justânever mind. Jacob, what . . . oh Jacob left, huh.â Lily pointed to where the Master of Sound had been standing, and, yep, the short man seemed to have wandered off. âBet he thought I was crazy and didnât want to hear it. Thatâs entirely fair, for a while in high school I did outright say I was insane.â
. . . This girl truly was an enigma, wasnât she?
âAnyways, back to the explanation. So, the Law of Fictional Coincidence is far less known than the Multiverse Theory, mostly because I came up with Fictional Coincidence myself. Itâs a long story. But it also has revealed itself to be entirely accurate in the situation weâre now in, so itâs relevant.âÂ
Lily started motioning as if she had a blackboard behind her, and Cole figured that if sheâd had her powers, sheâd have been shaping sand into images to represent what she was talking about.Â
âSo, the basic idea is that for every Universe A that exists, there exists a Universe B in which Universe A exists as some form of fictional media, and vice versa. This can be any media, such as a book, movie, video game, TV show, even fanfiction! For exampleââ Lily pointed to the imaginary blackboard behind her, ââby the Law of Fictional Coincidence, there exists a universe where the events of, say, the Fritz Donnegan series really happen. This also extends, however, to any piece of Fritz Donnegan media, official or unofficial. The comics are a universe, the movies are a universe, even every instance of fanfiction is a universe. And this, of course, applies to far more than just the Fritz Donnegan series, itâs just the only example I could think of here that I could use.â
Cole tried to think this over. âSo, in the Multiverse, every story is real somewhere?â he summarized, just to be sure he was understanding correctly.
âExactly right!â Lily pointed at Cole with a smile. âHowever, it ALSO works in reverse, and this is the part where it gets a bit existential. Remember, I first explained this as for every universe, thereâs another universe where the events of the first universe are fictionalâand THIS is the part that applies more to our current situation.â She paused for a moment, as if to try and let this sink in.
The Master of Earth wasnât sure he entirely liked where this was going. âBy that logic . . . are you trying to imply that our world is fictional in another universe?â
âBingo!â the redhead exclaimed, pointing at him again. âAnd this is where it gets complicated, because I happen to, well, not be from this world.â
âYouâre NOT?!â . . . Actually, wait, why was that even surprising? Sheâd just about been implying it the whole time sheâd been talking, given that sheâd been talking about the Multiverse in the first place.
âYep! And donât ask how we got here, because we have no idea. Anyways, if this is the Universe A of our equation, then Arti and I come from a respective Universe B, in which this world is a show. And Arti and I have both watched this show, meaning we know a lot of what happens, given weâre currently within the events that make up part of the show.â Lily shrugged. âThis is the existential part, so feel free to freak out for a minute if you need to.â
â. . .â Cole stared at the girl for a minute, before glancing at Karloff to see if he had any thoughts about this. Karloff just also shrugged, as if he wasnât sure what to think, so he turned back to Lily. â. . . Thatâs a lot youâre asking us to believe.â
Lily sighed, rubbing her neck. âYeah itâs. Itâs complicated, like I said. I will say, though, that this world doesnât exist because of the show. Iâve mostly explained this in a roleplay context before, but neither universe causes anything in the other one, they just coincidentally match up as one being media in the other. Thatâs why itâs called Fictional Coincidence, not Fictional Causation.â
âI guess that makes sense . . . ? But, thatâs why you knew I was going to lose the fight between me and Jay? Because you saw it in a TV show?â
The Master of Sand nodded. âYeah, and thatâs also how I know we eventually break out of hereâAND WHY I KNOW YOUâLL FAIL IF YOU TRY BREAKING OUT, JACOB!â she added, shouting over at the man in question. âI KEEP TELLING YOU, IT WONâT WORK!â
Rolling her eyes, she shot Cole and Karloff an awkward grin. âBut, yeah. TV show. You donât have to believe me, but itâs the truth.â
Cole sighed. âItâs a lot to take in, Lily, and Iâm not sure if I entirely understand it, let alone believe it.â But then, he grinned back. âBut . . . itâs not like Iâve got any reason not to believe you, either.â
Lilyâs grin went from awkward to genuine. âSo youâre at least gonna . . . dangit I canât think of a good word, tolerate the idea? Thereâs probably a better word than tolerate but I canât think of any.â
Cole nodded. âYeah. It might take some proof first before I can actually believe it, but I wonât shoot you down just yet.â
âOh, trust me, I can definitely give you proof.â Lily looked almost playfully devious as she said this. âJust you wait.â
