some breeds of cats with short legs; munchkin, bambino, minskin, lambkin/nanus rex, kinkalow, skookum/laMerm, dwelf, genetta, minuet/napoleon, gaelic fold. the base breed for short-legged cats is the munchkin. info: there are two types of legs involved in creating the 'munchkin' variation within the cat species; the 'munchkin' type, and the 'normal' type. the 'munchkin' and 'normal' types are the results of the mishmashing of 'M' and 'm' alleles, respectively. these alleles fall on the UGDH gene. (side note: in many texts, these are replaced by the 'Mk' and 'mk' alleles- i'm not using this variation here, because that makes it easier for me to use wikipedia's graphs.) a cat with the 'munchkin' variation will exclusively have one copy (heterozygous munchkin) of the 'munchkin' allele (M).
a cat with the 'normal' variation will exclusively have two (homozygous normal) copies of the 'normal' allele (m); this is because the 'munchkin' trait is autosomal dominant. autosomal dominance this means having two copies of the 'munchkin' allele will make the cat unviable.
therefore, commonly, breeding heterozygous 'munchkin' cats together is viewed as 'more unethical', because these cats will create unviable kittens. all cats that have the 'munchkin' leg variation, will have FDD. FDD - feline disproportionate dwarfism feline disproportionate dwafism is the term for any genetic condition causing disproportionate feline body features. there are three types of FDD; - osteochondrodysplasia - pituitary dwarfism - selective dwarfism chondrodysplasia - a chondrodysplasia is any disorder of the development of cartilage. with the 'munchkin' leg variation, the variation of the UGDH gene causes a congenital chondrodysplasia. this is a type of selective dwarfism, because we've deliberately encouraged these genetic mutations.
this chondrodysplasia can present with; - an increased incidence of lordosis and pectus excavatum - a higher risk for severe osteoarthritis - incongruities in the elbow, ulnocarpal and radiocarpal joints - 'munchkin' type legs every instance of 'munchkin' legs in cats is caused by the chondrodysplasia specifically. they are not separate traits created by the variation of the gene. what about (any munchkin cross-breed)? - every cat with short legs resulting from the 'munchkin' variation has chondrodysplasia. that includes cats that aren't recognized 'breeds'. vocabulary: zygosity allele gene autosomal dominance congenital -> a trait present from birth.

They had named her Broccoli 🥦 but she looked like a 'Yvonne' to us.
She Never Sleeps. Seriously, it's so odd for a cat. She's earned the nickname 'Vonn-pire' because of her sharp, little teeth and roaming the halls all hours of the night.
