over the past year, i have come to the realization that as much as i love layers--culture, at its core is about layers--i am a minimalist at the center of it all. so, in an effort to refine my hybrid-minimalistic life, i made the decision to filter my social media usage.

just like my e-mail inbox, i found that i had subscribed to too many things that no longer fit my current lifestyle. so, instead of keeping things that are used sparingly, i had to let it go. this meant giving up the social media platforms that didn't fit my personal aesthetics, and keeping those that assisted me with sharing artistic cultural production. 

when it comes to my artistic side, i am a focused visionary, cultural initiator and cultural producer than i am a social butterfly--at my best, i am a behind the scenes master builder who enjoys intimate conversations. so, instagram fills that gap for me as i can visually document the process and thoroughly answer comments without character limitations. i bid facebook adieu for my personal and visual art accounts [it's just too much for me], and i will try to devote a little time to pinterest, which i was obsessed with as an early adopter, and i'll try to communicate more effectively on twitter, @tanekeyaword, as it'll stretch me to chat more about the things i enjoy as a hybrid chic. 

i also have a scholarly side that has resurrected herself; therefore, twitter would be a great platform for me to continue to quickly filter my theories, @posthuxtable, and briefly hear real-time opinions. it would be cruel of me not to give a shout out to my m.v.p. tumblr, and my early prediction for rookie of the year, medium. [*updated i know most would say vine, but instagram is doing that now too--2 for 1 special!]

juggling cultural production on top of a mountain of digital communication is a balancing act. it is important to assess what works for you versus using every digital platform just to feel socially connected.
