For now (a mini headcanon)
Mickās not planning to give anyone the coldgun. Itās a memory of Snart, a reminder of him not being able to trust anyone at all - because everyone will betray him sooner or later and everyone will leave. Thatās not something Mickās interested in again. But not something he would want to forget either.Ā
He has the gun stashed away in the trunk at the end of his chair, his feet propped on it, a barrier in case Snart wanted to crawl out of whatever timely grave he is in and claim whatās not his anymore.
He thinks about burying the gun - if Lisa canāt bury Snartās body, Mick could share the place where he buried at least something of his, a place for Lisa to mourn over. Yet the idea still doesnāt feel right. Maybe Mick just doesnāt want to share.Ā
Thatās why heās more than surprised when something about Haircutās pitying expressionĀ makes Mick move, makes Mick reach inside the cursed trunk. No, Haircutās not an outsider. He was never meant to be one, not with that hopeful face of his, not with his devotion of being good, not with his desperate need to be recognized by someone. No matter whom. Haircut just needs someone to see him, needs to feel heās not invisible to the world - Mick understands now why the Time Masters didnāt want to kill him off right away. If one let that go on, if one let that stew for a while longer... Haircut could turn into something dangerous, spiteful and twisted.Ā
And that thought doesnāt sit with Mick as much as Lisa having access to the gun doesnāt, so Mick tells himself thatās the only reason his fingers curl around the coldgun. Not because he wants, needs to do something, to make sure the hopeful stupid smile still has a chance of appearing on Haircutās face.Ā
He points the gun at Ray and tells himself itās the last chance to back off. Itās a chance that he should take, because he knows itās a terrible idea, he knows-Ā
āWhat are you doing?āĀ
Haircutās not afraid, heās confused and Mick grumbles. Damn it.Ā
āSomething I hope I donāt regret.ā Mick says before he has time to think about it, his drawl all but forgotten. Heās doing a mistake, he knows.Ā
But the thing is... maybe heās not.Ā
āThis belonged to the greatest outsider Iāve ever known.ā If Haircut needs to be recognized... if Haircut needs someone... then maybe Mick can share the gun. But he wants something in return.
āIām looking for a partner.ā
Mick has no idea if Haircut knows itās a contract when he takes the gun, it doesnāt matter though.Ā
What Haircut will know, is that Mick is the person that sees him. Heāll know that he can be outsider with Mick and thatās enough.Ā
For now.
