This Earth Day 2018, a shout-out to one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen with my own eyes: “The World” artificial archipelago in the middle of the ocean off the coast of Dubai. This is an enormous display of 300 artificial islands that together look like the shape of the world’s continents from above. Many of the islands have been purchased by various rich people, and though the project went through a long rough patch after the ‘08 recession, the idea is that they’ll eventually be more developed, adding to the already ridiculous dreamlike atmosphere in the area.
