If there was one thing Mari enjoyed about Thanksgiving, it was that she got to leave campus - she often went back to Boston to spend the short break with her mother, her father not bothering to leave the school that he valued so much more than his family. Needless to say, she was none to big a fan of the change this year, her father letting her know shortly after the invitations had gone out to all families that she would be staying, leaving her no choice with the matter. Naturally, Mari had asked if her mother and Bryn would be joining them. Also naturally, the question had gone unanswered, which was answer enough. As she slipped into her dress for the dinner, irritation darkened her face before she exited the room with a sigh, finding Milo still there waiting. "Should we go?" she asked, the sarcastic tone to her question making it clear they both knew they didn't have any other option.
Mari would be lying if she said walking from her room towards the commons with her hand gripping Milo's elbow didn't feel at least a bit better than if she was dragging herself that way on her own, the smile as she entered to see her father waiting coming over her face a bit easier. "Hey," she said, aware that she'd probably be scolded for the casual greeting later, but it was the only form of rebellion she could indulge in. "Have you seen Milo's family yet?" she asked the dean, glancing around the mostly empty room before dropping her hand from her roommate so he could make a quick escape. She wouldn't doom anyone else to this torture.
