the dream sea par Nathan Milner Via Flickr : 2016 Facebook Blog Model - Bridget Claire Assistant - www.flickr.com/photos/wdnphotography/ The past several months I've been venturing on new paths that I never thought I'd have the courage to follow. Running workshops and meet ups has been something I've wanted to do for a few years but I've never believed in myself enough, I thought, I can't do that, I'm not good enough to do that and I let all these self doubts influence my decision until I finally took the leap, stopped listening to those voices that were telling me that is was going to be terrible, that it was not going to work out. I finally was able to tell myself, well so what, if for whatever reason it didn't work out at least I've tried, at least I've pushed myself out of my comfort zone to try something I had dreamed about doing no matter the outcome. I struggle with negative and self doubting thoughts everyday with my art, just like most artists do, about why I'm creating and if I should continue or not and the list goes on but I have noticed a significant change in the way I process these thoughts and how to over come them! I've built many amazing friendships within the past six months with fellow photographers, two who deserve a special thanks because without them this image couldn't have been created! Bridget and Loc, you two are so great and inspire me more and more every time we are together, I look forward to creating with you guys :D

Winogrand's "Uneasy Eye"
What follows is a response to Caille Millner’s article in the San Francisco Chronicle link to article
So on one hand we have the kind, sensitive photographer who asks permission, and on the other hand we see the lustful, rapacious jerk with a camera who victimizes women. Your simplistic and patronizing analysis reduces complex artists to stock characters in a parable.
Comparing Winogrand to a rape creep on Reddit is specious at best. Was it Winogrand that somehow made it possible for people to be jerks on the Internet? Is that what the exhibition really is - Winogrand posting nasty photos while we, the viewing public, are unconsciously egging him on, chanting, “Rape her”?
Does knowing whether a photographer asked permission make you like the resulting photograph any more or less? Should we scorn the work of hundreds of photographers - artists such as Vivian Miaer, Helen Levitt, Lizette Model, Diane Arbus, and Zoe Strauss - because they commit the terrible sin of not asking permisson?
By the way, does your permission rule apply to photojournalists? Is it okay for them to not ask permission? Is news photography more important than art photography, and so gets a pass? Ponder this, too: how much privacy can one expect while out in a public place?
At one point, you call Winogrand’s work a wretched vision, and in that you’re right. In 1963 he wrote,
“I look at the pictures I have done up to now, and they make me feel that who we are and how we feel and what is to become of us just doesn’t matter. Our aspirations and successes have been cheap and petty. I read the newspapers, the columnists, some books, I look at some magazines (our press). They all deal in illusions and fantasies. I can only conclude that we have lost ourselves, and that the bomb may finish the job permanently, and it just doesn’t matter, we have not loved life … “
Clearly, Winogrand did not think that humanity was living up to its potential, and that comes across in his photos. Knowing that you and I saw the same broad retrospective, I can’t understand how you walked away with such a narrow vision.
