A recent Merrill Lynch commentary finds a strong link between reduced gas prices, fuel efficiency and more miles driven.  The study shows that gas prices are dropping, vehicles are getting more efficient, and the compounded effect of both of these should mean that consumers should be driving more miles, which is playing out in the data.
