...Doesn't that sound familiar lol.

Some further clarification on my end: I believe Mileven was never anything but a red herring in many ways (romantically speaking), and the introduction of Wheelchance would kill the ship in one fell swoop. Seriously, I don't feel bad for the fans at all, given how they've acted, but even I am slightly taken aback by how cruel this is on the Duffers' part. Though they have a complex emotional bond, their "romantic" relationship was never anything but a lie.

Therefore, I believe Chance is being set up as the TRUE love rival; it's why they've hidden him in subtext to this absurd extent. Will did say "I never stood a Chance" not "I never stood an Eleven", after all. See also the potentially relevant trope Chekov's Gunman (seemingly minor character later turns out to have great importance to the story).

In addition, multiple people have presented me with pieces of evidence/references to other media in the show that clearly point to Wheelchance being in the cards. I don't feel comfortable divulging this information at the moment and until I have their express permission, but I am just going to say, be prepared for some level of conflict.

At this point, it's a bit naive to expect Byler endgame without any real obstacles.

And if there's a chance that we are getting more than one ending (in addition to the "bad/conformity" one we already got?). Well...
