has there ever been a time where you felt solidarity/community with another disabled person in a situation with you?
every time I bitch about the Symptoms with Elliott, as well as any time the server or my irl gc stay up too late and start discussing the horrors of mental illness
what does disability pride mean to you?
answered fully in another post; tldr it's about community, being loud about what you deserve, and being unashamed of your needs and disabilities :]
free space to talk about whatever disability issue or experience you want !
hmmm lately I've been thinking about how abled people really just are on another understanding of how their bodies/minds work and what accomodations do.
like, one time I was talking abt how i am/was at the time too disabled to do theatre and my able-bodied friend said "but they can provide accomodations?". and, like. I don't even remember if I properly explained or if I just said "yeah maybe", but: even if I spend all day not moving, with heat packs where it hurts and eating nutritious meals and relaxing in bed, only getting up to do a short, refreshing walk in the sun, I am in pain. i am exhausted. I feel sick. I *am* sick.
therefore, all the accommodations in the world won't stop me from flaring and/or melting down after 3 hours of moving around, speaking, being around loud noises, memorizing things and socializing. they just Won't. i absolutely could Not do that, especially multiple days a week. I just can't. and I don't hold ill will to my friend for not understanding that, but.... it's wild. it really is.
