MiFID is a term being thrown around in financial circles more in recent weeks and, while you may know that it’s an acronym for Markets In Financial Instruments Directive, you may not know exactly what that means. Essentially it’s a regulation that helps promote greater transparency throughout the financial markets in the European Union. It also makes regulatory disclosures standard for certain markets, so the entire system will be more unified. Although first established in 2008, more recent amendments to MiFID rules lend greater oversight to pre and post-trade transactions.
