since he was out most of the day, always busy with jobs, he rarely spent his time at home. even when it was furnished pretty tastifully, he was not much around to relax in his private chambers. that was why he had agreed to provide his apartment to eunmi as much and whenever she liked. now he was a busy guy who had all kinds of thoughts whirling around in his head which was why he sometimes forgot about their agreement.
at that specific evening, he just finished one of his jobs and returned home to get rid of his dirtied clothes. dohwan took off his gloves and dropped them into a box. then he slipped out of shirt that was saturated with a mixture of his sweat and his victim's blood. it felt aweful on his skin, sticky and uncomfortable. he just wanted to get rid of the stains, the sooner he turned his victim's last remain into waste water, the better. hot water run over his tensed body, he slowly relaxed, as he let the warmth prickling into his limbs. after getting out of the shower and drying himself off, dohwan walked over to his bedroom to get himself fresh clothes to wear.
he put on his shirt, while walking towards the living room, just to notice a person sitting on his couch. pulling down his shirt completely, he blinked in surprise. "eunmi? why are you here?"

it's one of the more materialistic attributes she has. she likes nice jewelry, clothing that's so soft against your skin it lulls you into sleep. she likes pretty faces with nice complexions and even sweeter smiles. she likes things with gemstones and accents that are fit for queens and kings. she didn't grow up with these sort of things, but oh, how she loves them, and god does she have an eye for the aesthetic.
even now, trailing her eyes down the girl's body in thought, head tilting to the side as she hums idly. she studies the fabric over the fair skinned girl carefully, teeth worrying her lower lip. the lavender looks lovely against eunmi's complexion, pretty enough that it makes jessica relax a bit. sharp fingernails tap a rhythm on her arm, digging into her skin when she gets caught up in a thought.
"it fits you, as usual." her voice is soft, quiet. her expression doesn't change from the studious one that still takes home on her features. "though it's...missing something. what sort of jewelry were you thinking of matching it with?" a pause. her eyes narrow as she clicks her tongue. "if you highlight your cheeks with something more translucent, it'll bring out the color nicely."
let's get it started
let me see whatcha got
can ya take it up a knotch?
don't think you got it
can't handle the pressure?
@mieunmi
a childish competition, really. one that had a winner from the first shot, but eunmi is nothing if not persistent if she doesn’t get her way. though, there is the notion that he simply allows it because of his own nature. too relaxed and casual for her. easy-going whereas eunmi has to have things her way. of course, it brings a sense of balance and they likely need it for this idiotic of a game.
they just so happened to end up at the same shooting range, at the same time, and just like that she’d baited him into “ helping ” her. the truth is, eunmi’s known how to shoot a gun since she was six. a precaution, her caretaker insisted, and the reason for it only came out when she was eight, circumstances she rarely speaks of let alone tells anyone of it.
the paper targets come flying towards them and she’s visibly bothered by the two shots that’d been off just a little in comparison to his. she’s never once asked why he’s such a good shot. there are questions you don’t ask on this island. only a fool would dare. no, instead, her foolishness manifests in other ways, and she’s grinning when she turns to him, “ want to take this somewhere else? i have a more fun target in mind. ”
jaehyun rarely turned down a challenge he knew he could win easily. this was one of those cases. shooting had never been his best ability, if he had to be honest. he was better than average, he knew how to work with different shooting weapons. maybe he had an addiction to the adrenaline he felt whenever the bullets were fired, the loud noise echoing around them. however, he sees quickly through eunmi’s facade about the helping bit. she could easily take anyone that let their guard down with those shots.
he doesn’t even comment on the fact that his were better, there was no need for it as he reloaded the gun, getting ready to shoot again. jaehyun wasn’t a show off, he took the proper stance, gun in both hands and aimed for the next target, but the girls words make him pause and lower his gun. “define fun target and maybe i’ll consider it.” he says, not even looking at her as he clicks the safety of his gun back on.
there were questions that surfaced once he saw eunmi shoot, but he knew better than asking. so naturally, he pushed those questions to the back of his head. what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him, at least not now. “also, what was the whole bullshit about helping you? you really don’t need my help.” he asks, almost sighing. it seemed like a general waste of time all of this.
do not forgive, do not forget. 5:43 pm, ft. @mieunmi
he knows he shouldn’t be there. he knows she doesn’t want him there - hasn’t wanted him there for years now, but he is a friend of the family, and despite everything that happened, despite eunmi’s hatred for him and seungjin’s own wish to avoid confrontation, he is forced to play the part.
he arrives a little early, as per usual, as he’s used to all his life, and ends up sitting in the living room with the head of the house - eunmi’s father. if they were still dating, eunmi would be upset, she would later tell him it’s okay he’s talking to her father, but the tone of her voice would say otherwise. seungjin then would hug her and kiss her on the cheek, assuring her it’s all good, and eventually she would give in, she would smile the same smile that made seungjin’s heart stop every time.
but now it’s all in the past. now he feels how she seethes upon seeing him with his father all cozy and chatty in the living room. he knows she hates him, it’s probably the right thing to do, even after all of these years. avoiding her seems easy, for the most part. parties like these end up having a few dozen of guests over, so even if you’re talking all night there are enough people to keep him from having to talk to her. he wishes he could talk to her, but he knows he doesn’t deserve a second of her time.
the guests soon gather and it’s time for dinner, so seungjin moves to the dining room, scanning the cards to find his assigned seat. once he’s at his seat, he feels himself sick in the stomach.
what kind of a sick joke.
he thinks as his eyes fall onto the card right next to his.
Let's say you take a break from our day
And gettin' back to the old garage
Because life's too short anyway
But at least it's better then average
As long as you got me
And I got yo, you know we'll got a lot to go around
I'll be your friend, your other brother
Another love to come and comfort you
the days when it was just the four of them and the wide world that was supposed to be discovered, were peaceful, a precious memory he still dwells in at times. yes, life is too short and every single moment dohwan got to live in those old days had formed him in a way. but things won't stay the same, and similarly to the flow of time, humans change, melt and turn into creatures of this cruel world.
[►] BTOB - Friend
Maybe we didn’t realize it
But we’ve gotten more and more close to each other and now we’re grown up
You probably know me better than my family Maybe
You’re my brother from another mother sister from another mister
We’re not blood related but it doesn’t matter
Got each other’s backs no matter what happens...
no matter what happens. that's what he had believed back in the old days, when their friendship was still intact and uncomplicated. when everyone was still just friends, instead of lovers and ex-friends. but in the end everything fades eventually and all that is left to do is, to stare at the shattered bond at their feet, wondering how the time had went by.
[►] Huh Gak - Hello
To @seolhyunmi :
The person that I loved crazily
There’s so much that I didn’t say yet
You’re the person that used to love me
Now I can’t touch you
Suffering to the point of death, to the point of death
Can you see me dying and not alive?
dohwan's first love and his first encounter with real feelings. things had gone well and they were madly in love with each other and dohwan had felt like a human again, until the day where their relationship changed. seolhyun was targeted by hydrus. being in love with the enemy was unforgiveable, so he broke all ties to her, and left behind the feelings that showed him a different side of the emotionless and stoic man. with the the lost love, most of the human within him died.
[►] SHAUN - Way Back Home
To @mieunmi:
I'll never leave your side
You will never be alone
Even when we go through changes
Even when we're old
Remember that I told you
I'll find my way back home
the last one standing from his old friends is eunmi, the one he had known for the longest. his loyalty towards her arises from his wish to keep at least a part of his part alive. eunmi is the only one who still remembers how who he had been and in hope to keep those memories from vanishing into oblivion, he returns to her, keeps staying at her side, even when both of them had changed.
[►] Jay Park - Legacy
To @seungjinmi:
Small-minded petty shit
Somethin' we don’t entertain'
We do somethin' lame
Live and learn
I'm slipping, I'm falling, I can't get up
I know you’ll catch me, support me and help me get up
Yeah this bullshit’s whatever, I'll show nothin’ but love
when things were still good between them, they were the ultimate homies. seungjin and dohwan hung around each other day and night, there was nobody who could separate them and keep them from doing their thing. they could rely on each other, were like brothers and their trust was unbreakable until the day seungjin changed and shoke the bond between the four of them.

"The truth is incontrovertible.
Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it,
but in the end, there it is."
@mieunmi
the zooming sound of the surveillance cameras on him, as soon as he stood in front of the gate to eunmi's home, brought back memories from the past. when he was younger, he had been here more often, had tagged along with the other two of their group of four to visit eunmi, when they felt like it. now it was rather rare for him to be the one at her door, as he was usually too busy to come over just like that. she however looked for him on a more regular base, since eunmi usually was the one who entered his house without his knowledge because she had easier access to his estate than he to hers. it was obvious that the shim family was more careful about their surroundings than a unimportant family like the woo family, so dohwan waited patiently in front of the gate, holding his face up to be identified. he might appear suspicious, wearing all black, cap pulled down and being a tall and broad hunk, but he had been here often enough for the housekeeper to know his face. silently he followed the staff member inside, into the wide rooms of the shim family's residence, before he took off his cap and settled down on a seat in eunmi's bedroom.
without another word the housekeeper left the room, left him alone in his friend's chambers, who was nowhere to be seen. he leaned back and closed his eyes for a moment, one hand on his lap, the other pressed to his stomache. a uncomfortable feeling, pain settled in his guts, while he was sitting in await of eunmi's return, and it was the reason for his surprise visit. dohwan huffed, sharply breathed in, when he shifted himself. his complexion didn't looked as healthy as usual. looking around his friend was nowhere to be seen, so he took out a pill and crushed them between his teeth. a bitter taste spread all over his mouth and dohwan shuddered. he wasn't used to painkillers, normally he would just bear with the pain coming from wounds and injuries, but this time it was different. this time it raised the question of "what if".

were his eyes playing a prank on him just now? dohwan furrowed his brows in disbelief of what he had just seen. he had been called in by her father once again, and dohwan didn't really knew what this was about, but he assumed it was the usual "keep your eyes on her"-routine which was why he didn't refused the old man's order. the two of them were sitting in eunmi's room, talking about trivialities, while enjoying a few drinks together. it was unusual for them to be this relaxed, without breaking off a fight or argument, but what he had seen just now was more than enough reason to interrupt the peace.
dohwan grabbed her arm. eunmi was wearing a long sleeved shirt which covered most of her skin. he was sharp eyed though so when she picked up her glass to take a sip, a bruise drew his attention. without a word, he pulled down her sleeve, staring at the bruise around her wrist, just to yank down the sleeve on the other arm as well. another bruise. "what did you do, shim eunmi?!" he yelled, his jetblack orbs trembling in terror as he glared at her. "what are those bruises?? who did that to you??" his expression darkened as soon as he asked about the identity of her assailant. that person was dead meat. "i'll kill him." he growled, cracking his knuckles as he got up from his seat. nobody dared to touch, to hurt shim eunmi, when woo dohwan was in her shadows keeping an eye on her, without knowing about the risk to be fucked up in the most terrifying way possible.

sometimes children just cried, sometimes they were sad or afraid of things beyond imagination. whatever it was that made the younger girl suffer, dohwan, ten years old, decided to walk up to her and offer his comfort. as he staggered closer, he noticed the bleeding knee that probably was the cause for her tears. tilting his head he slowly slid into her field of vision, before he kneeled down in front of her. "hello, are you ok?" the little girl shoke her head, sniffing, when looking up at him. dohwan blinked at her for a moment, contemplating about what to do. they were outside in a rather wide garden of a high society event, and there was no one else in sight. it was late autumn and pretty cold outside, so there was no way he could just leave her like this.
"wait here for a moment, i'll be right back and bring some help!" the boy raised himself up to run back inside, just to be yanked back by a small hand, tugging on his fingers. her eyes grew even bigger, when he was about to leave, thick tears kept overflowing, dropping onto the ground like rain drops. "if you don't let go, i can't get help." he raised his eyebrow, being at a total loss. the younger girl shoke her head once again and words stumbled over her pinkish lips as she told him to not leave her alone. it was scary being left behind, like abandoned in this huge garden area.
he let out a sigh, it couldn't be helped then. "ok, i'll stay here with you." dohwan let himself flop back next to the female, patting her head gently, while she was rubbing away the tears. "hey, how about i'll carry you inside? i'm pretty strong." he flexed his arms, trying to show off his lanky limbs. no reaction at all. seeing her crying had made him wish to make her smile, but she seemed to be harder to please then he expected from a child much younger than him. for a moment he sat there, thinking how to cheer her up more, before it hit him like a stroke. ruffling through his bags, dohwan took out a small creased paper crane, holding it gently between his palms. "i know it's not pretty anymore, but do you want this paper crane? i folded it myself." the pride was clearly heard in his voice, when he held it in front of her face. the younger child gaze at it with fascination, the corner of her lips gradually curled up before it turned into a fullfledged smile. a smile he would never forget ever again. and a smile that was the beginning of who he was.
