#midnight dancer

I blame fully Samuli Putro's song "Tanssija" which is a cover of the "Maniac" song. While both have the same idea, on the cover he sings, "She is dancer, dancer" instead maniac. The song's chorus kept repeating inside of my mind in the nonstop loop, which gave inspiration to this gift artwork. Not to mention, when I was planning this artwork, I decided to draw my OC Mazu, because she is an extremely good dancer. I also felt like drawing her once again.

I tried to go a bit mystical and ethereal direction with this artwork, with the midnight background and water floor. Because of that, I also made Mazu's eyes half-lidded, like she was fully absorbed in her dance.

Midnight Dancer (Take Me Away)

“The Up-Side of Down” series was inspired by a 2009 assault and battery that hospitalized Carini with multiple facial fractures, severe eye trauma, and a concussion. Carini’s signature icon, which he saw flashing in his head during his concussive state, is a key repeating element in this series that represents life growing from death and discovering the positives in negatives.

Featured: Midnight Dancer (Take Me Away). Acrylic on panel. 60in x 48in. This painting was the very first I ever created for Deanne Hastings, one of my greatest inspirations and the person that was closest to me. She used to call me her "Wings" and is the reason I have them tattooed on my back. Sadly, Deanne went missing in 2015 and has yet to be found. I still think about her every single day.
