Forging Her Own Path

This was a birthday commission from one friend to another. The subject of the painting was an ex Roller Derby competitor who was simultaneously celebrating her 40th birthday after freeing herself from a toxic relationship. She was described as thrift store eccentric with a fauxhawk that changes color weekly, and strong Disney Princess vibes by the way animals are attracted to her.

I wanted to represent her journey as having walked through some thick weeds, but she’s coming out of the other side with a warm sun at her back. The turtle she’s smiling down on is her favorite animal. I’m told the recipient wept when she received it and she’s going to use it as her inspiration to keep moving forward.

Nearly There

Well, I didn't make my self-imposed deadline. I wanted to finish this novel by the end of today, and I'd set an assumed wordcount of about 55,000 words. It's going to be at least 60K words. I'm at about 54,000 now and am pretty sure I can get up to over 55K tomorrow evening. 2K is an easy reach for me. If I really push, and get my outline much fuller, I might be able to get to the end on Monday. I hope

I'm nearly done with the second novel in my Paranormal Women's Fiction series and I'm not sure it'll fit into the 55K word count I've set for it. I'm fine with it being longer. I'm just amused that it keeps growing like this.

Anyway, if I can get 5000 words written today, the first draft will be done!! I'm excited. I'm hoping to publish it by the end of the month.

I'll have to start the next one right away, though, because this one ends on a much cliffier note than the first one. Eek.

Also, when I'm done, I can finish a couple of personal non-writing projects that have been on hold for ages. (Hand-bound art book I'm looking at you!)
