Hey Fellowship of the Fics! Please welcome @midearthwritings​ !! 👏🥳 Max decided to share their thoughts and impressions on their fic: Angels Standing Guard.

Question 1: Did you have a plan for this story and did it stick well to that plan?

I did have a plan. From the moment I thought about writing this fic I knew exactly how I wanted it to go. But as I started writing and rewriting, I slowly started changing things. There is one particular scene that I wanted to add at first where the reader gets to say goodbye to their family. But I ended up removing it because that's not how it works. Sometimes, we don't get to say goodbye and I wanted to put that in my fic.

Question 2: What scene are you most proud of and why?

Probably the scene at the beginning when the reader just looks at their dead body. It's like they're grieving their own death and I thought it would be a really powerful and emotional feeling to put into words.

Question 3: Which character was your favorite to write in this fic and why?

Oh definitely Kíli and Tauriel. I'm not going to lie, I'm really proud of that scene as well. I love writing for Kíli in general but I love it even more when I get to write angsty Kíli fics. Am I cruel? Maybe, yeah.

Question 4: What are 3 "hidden" headcanons or facts that you want your readers to know about this story?

Oh that's an interesting question. Okay: 1- It took me three months, and three times writing this before actually posting it. I was just never happy with the result, or thought that people wouldn't enjoy reading something like that. 2- Most of my fics about death and grieving were written while I was grieving myself. This one included. 3- At first, there was supposed to be no romance. But I added some Fíli x Reader. Just because I could. I have no excuse.

Question 5: If you were to give this fic an alternate title, what would it be?

Awh man that's a tough question. I have always have a hard time picking titles. Probably something like "Eternal Night"? I'm not sure ahah. It's hard to forget about the original title and find a new one.

I have 21 wips at the moment. Not counting the list with 'ideas for wips'. Some of them haven't been open in forever, others get a daily visit. Two of them are in the 'I might be able to post it this month' stage.

And... 13 of them are Fili related 🙈 I usually start my wips with Fili in mind, but sometimes that changes when I'm writing it. Like 'power outage' was supposed to be with Fili but then I felt it would fit Kili better so I altered the plot a little to what it is today.

Do you work on a single project or many at the same time? How does that work for you? I tend to have many on the go at the same time. I will admit that I tend to focus on one for a time and abandon others. I’ve got to look at some kind of schedule so stories don’t get missed. I’ve got a fair few stories that have been put aside; however, I also judge the story by if people show interest or ask after it. If I don’t get that feedback, then it remains unwritten even longer.

Is writing the whole thing beforehand better or worse than writing it as you go? I personally prefer writing as I go. Ideas come to me as I write. I can’t plan, unless it’s large plot points and then I just keep them in mind.

45: Name three of my favorite Fanfic writers

Oh gosh that's hard. I do be doing a lot of reading. I gotta say @knife-em0ji with their WONDERFUL zombie!bagginshield au that I eagerly expect the next chapter. Northern Sparrow because I am obsessed with the way they throw all their bird knowledge into a fantastic story.....and probably @perkynurples and I hope they are doing alright because I will never stop thinking about the upcoming reunion in their WWII!Bagginshield story (there are so many but those are just off the top of my head.)

64: Favorite Title for a Fic you've read?

Hm, that's so many to think of. Most of the fics I read have song titles as is customary usually, but I honestly don't think I could give an answer to that.

79: are you an over-writer, under-writer, or just-right-er?

Could I please request headcanons for Thorin seeing his hobbit s/o wearing traditional dwarven clothes for the first time? Like in Erebor (everybody lives AU).

Thorin's initial reaction is pride. Dwarves are always very proud people, especially of their race. And seeing the one he loves clothed in the garb of the Dwarves is just breathtaking for him.

Thorin doesn't realise it initially, but the clothing that has been chosen for his S/O is midnight blue, the same colour that Thorin himself wears.

There is no more a magical sight than this for Thorin. He can't keep his eyes, and hands, off them. The clothing fits them just perfectly, highlighting all of Thorin's favourite parts. Thorin is all smiles, physical touch and whispers when no one else can hear, telling his S/O how stunning they look.

Thorin also asks that a portrait be painted of him and his lover, both wearing their special Dwarves clothing, so he can keep that memory alive forever.

And, of course, there is some magic in the bedroom afterwards. ;)
