I don’t think they became a couple until their second year and having moved in with each other, but they were certainly aware of each other before that considering everything we do know like the him bidding on her at that party early in their first year. I also don’t think it’s out of the possibility that they knew more of each other before starting uni, they did have friends in common. That’s not the same as meeting or getting to no know each other.
Yeahhh but Mike was very specific. Him saying Catherine denied it and then going on about something like “we find the prospect of prince William being our son in law very funny” seems too specific to just be an off the cuff denial to distract them
