issues with macpro 5.1 & sapphire hd 7950 & adobe premiere cc
I hooked up my Mac Pro 5.1 (mid 2010) with the AMD Sapphire HD 7950 Graphics Card. It works fine with most of the stuff I'm doing under Mavericks 10.9.2.
What doesn't work is the Volumetrix 2 Wipe / idustrial revolution under Adobe Premiere Pro CC 7.2.1 (4). The effect doesen't render correct and causes black frames and missing pictures in the whole timeline. Going back to the ATI Radeon 5770 everything works fine again.
If anybody has any solution or idea about it – I would be happy for a message!
The Mountain Lion Nightmare Upgrade
I left the Windows world to get away from this mess!
I upgraded my Mid 2010 Mac Mini Lion Server to Mountain Lion, after backing everything up and checking the disk integrity. It estimated 34 minutes for the backup. After 4 hours it estimated -1 hour and 24 minutes.
That's MINUS 1 hour and 24 minutes. So after pondering the existential meaning of waiting a negative amount of time, I decided to leave it overnight, hoping the tear in time and space that had appeared around my Mac Mini would repair itself.
In the morning I examined the fallout. It was bad. A grey apple and a spinning thingy. I left it for 4 hours. No change.
Finally I switched it off and let it reboot. No change. Sweating a little I tried to use the recovery mode. Not working. Safe mode? Not working. That's ok, let's boot from the second drive. Not working (wouldn't let me choose a disk). Nothing but the spinning, waiting, taunting, arrogant grey apple. It seemed to glare at me as if to say "I've just travelled the time vortex you ignoramus, I'm in control now."
At this point I wondered whether WIndows Server would have given me this much grief, or astronomical mithering. This was just a basic upgrade on a closed system. Apple should have figured this out before release.
I then realised the 'pong' noise was not going off on reboot. That was new.
I reset the PRAM and it started booting. Safe mode. "The disk has an error."
What? The server's been running fine for months. No errors. "Disk Utility can't repair your error. Node fault."
Oh no! A Node fault!!! WTF is a Node fault???
Ok so I decided to get serious. I reboot from the spare drive (I've been keep the spare cloned with Carbon Copy Cloner - so I can now confirm CCC works!) and formatted the system disk. I checked it again. No errors. I rebooted into recovery mode and tried to restore from Time Machine. No backups found. What???????
WTF does Time Machine do all day?? useless shit-ass Time Machine. All it's done is create a localised disturbance in time. Useless!
I checked the spare drive (not the Time Machine). "Backups found from last December." erm.. huh?? Where did they come from? Anyway, I skipped that and decided to restore the system disk from the bootable spare. 2 Hours. It's copying now and all I can hope for is that it doesn't fall victim to another tear in the space-time continuum. Or worse, create a time-loop that collapses into a wormhole to nowhere. Upgrading is frightening stuff.
