The way the Benny's Burgers t shirt story and first day of kindergarten story are meant so sound just similar enough but not actually the same. Because El's is just "love at first sight" with a little bit of detail. But it didn't get me because it wasn't actually even the right trope to.
Will's was the classic trope I will always love "remember that time? Of course you do. But you never knew what I was thinking when it happened. So let me tell you the story again with all the little details even though you already know them: I was thinking 'I love you'."
(vs "The day we met you looked like how you looked on the day that we met, a day which I remember and remember having feelings on". Story vs claim)
Love at first sight versus let me tell you a story, it just happens to be the first time I saw you
one of my favorite dialogue microtropes is
Character A: I don't wanna talk about it.
Character B: Alright, well if you don't want to—
Character A: Alright, you dragged it out of me, I'll tell you
Underrated microtrope is Character A on the phone discussing something mundane with Character B while B is busy doing something insane like fighting ninjas or scaling the Burj Khalifa
Bonus points if A doesn't suspect anything until the end and B makes up a lame excuse OR if A says "you're fighting ninjas again" because it implies B does it very often
one of my favorite microtropes or whatever is when like one character looks at the other like they hung the moon. not because they’re idolizing them but because they just love them that much, that wholly. like that’s beautiful, and the concept of reading that line and imagining there loving gaze just hits me in all the right ways
