Physicality and consistent presence is a major aspect of the game feel in Sea of Thieves, with so much of the play experience focusing on the player feeling present in their physical environment and role as a pirate. This is perhaps best typified through the need for the player to physically explore a map with no indicator or marker for their location except where they are actually standing. From this concept, the game is able to impress upon the player that they are part of this world, and that their experience will require them to be an active participant in it, even with such simple actions as finding items in a small space.
