Todd Syndrome/Alice in Wonderland Syndrome (AIWS)/Dysmetropsia/Lilliputian hallucinations: a disorienting neuropsychological condition that primarily targets children that causes a distortion of perception. People may experience distortions in visual perception of objects such as appearing smaller (micropsia) or larger (macropsia), or appearing to be closer (pelopsia) or farther (teleopsia) away than they actually are.

Alice in Wonderland syndrome

also known as Todd's syndrome or dysmetropsia it is a neuropsychological condition that distorts visual perceptions. such as micropsia (objects appearing small), macropsia (objects appearing large), pelopsia (objects appearing to be closer than they are), or teleopsia (objects appearing to be further away than they are)

A person with alice in wonderland syndrome might also lose a sense of time similar to lack of spatial perspective. Time might appear to pass more slowly than usual as the lack of time and space perspective leads to a disorder sense of the passing of time.

those effected by alice in wonderland syndrome can also experience disturbances in sound perception. noises could be amplified or distorted.

as you could tell alice in wonderland syndrome was named after Lewis Carroll's famous 19th-century novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. In the story, Alice, experiences numerous situations similar to those of micropsia and macropsia. such as eating a piece of cake and growing gigantic and drinking a potion to grow small.

After finding out I got my childhood aiws from my dad today (because I brought it up and he spontaneously revealed that he had it as a kid too which NEITHER my mom nor I had known before today) and him saying he recalled it mostly being a problem as a kid but also having episodes as late as his early twenties, I’m sitting here at 23 now like

#alice in wonderland syndrome #micropsia #i was fortunate in that i only had visual distortions so at least if i closed my eyes i could mostly stop it #still had to wait for the weird feeling in my brain to pass but i didnt have to see the distortions #but for some reason for me the episodes of things shrinking were mostly set off by looking at someone’s face???#idk like it did happen occasionally other times #like the classic ‘hooooly shit this hallway just got a lot longer’#but 90% of my recollections of it are of looking at someone while they’re talking #and all of a sudden everything from above their shoulders shrunk down #their heads just went wooooooo (read that with a descending pitch)

Micropsia is so unecessary i wish i didn't have it
