I absolutely LOVE my new very colourful fancy Jasper sphere, which is an impure form of silica, essentially microcrystalline quartz (chalcedony)! The colours result from the different mineral impurities and elements present during its formation, such as: Iron oxides, such as hematite (red, yellow, orange, brown), Chlorite (green), Clay minerals (yellow, grey, white), Goethite (yellows and browns), and other organic materials (various other colours). The patterns range from swirled, to mottled, to speckled. A very unique and beautiful piece! 💎

Check out this thick Agate Slice we took to the beach with us. A semiprecious type of Chalcedony, Agate is a microcrystalline variety of Quartz. It is created by a series of processes that happen in cavities within solidified lava. Most Agate that you will see is banded and can be found in any color in the spectrum

Silver freckled blues. This is my favorite glaze combo right now. It isn’t new. When I use it, it feels like an old soft sweater. All my glazes require three brushed coats. But I know these two need to be the consistency of mud, not cream, I know that my short bristled brush is better that the soft long bristles, and that barely a 1/4 inch overlap is enough to get the light blue running. I know their quirks. Yesterday I was looking through past posts for that video. I noticed that I tend to turn to the tried-and-true this time of year. The brash experimentation of Spring is tucked in for the year, and I am snuggling up with my favorites. I’ll fight it! I have a backsplash to design, that drippy rainbow glaze to pin down, and I have ideas for new mugs and orchid pots. But I do feel the hibernation call.
