these refs are bought and paid out

and have no shame in being down for the fix.

How this Michigan landfill is turning Canada’s nasty trash into treasure

Jeff Bohm wants Ontario’s garbage – the smellier, drippier and nastier the better.

Mr. Bohm is the board chairman of St. Clair County in Michigan, which is just across the border from Sarnia, Ont. The county owns the Smiths Creek Sanitary Landfill, which, as Mr. Bohm puts it, is no traditional build it and fill it operation.

A bioreactor at the landfill earns the county about $800,000 a year. It turns methane gas produced by rotting garbage into energy, which the county sells to the electricity grid.
