Some songs are ubiquitous for a reason. Some songs become so popular, they almost become clichés. But underneath that cliché is often a great song. This song is no exception. It's deceptively simple, yet its directness is almost unsettling. The songwriter must have been going through some serious emotions to get to the truth revealed in this plaintive song. I struggle every time just to get through it, so obviously the sentiments showcased in the melody and lyric are universal.
