Petition for Alfred
Give this boy some strong medicine and nutritious meal. He's gonna faint under von Krolock's seduction.
I'm so sorry, Michi. Someone had to write it.

Who are your favourite Alfreds
Oo there's a few! Honestly, for how much I love this musical, I have no watched many versions. With Elisabeth I'm much more familiar with different cast members throughout the productions, but with Tanz I know more about Krolock than any other character. I should really fix that.
I have a soft spot for Anton Zetterholm because he's the first Alfred I ever watched, so nostalgia I suppose. Anton has a great voice, and he's quite a sweet Alfred.
Aris Sas! The OG Alfred! He's just so pretty, so so pretty, and cute, and adorable wait those all mean the same thing uh... I'd probably say Aris is my favourite if I had to pick just one?
Again I love the Berlin 2011-2013 cast so I also really like Michael Heller and Dennis Jankowiak (understudy).
Yes hello this video made me rediscover my love for Michaelâs Alfred and I need to share it with the world so here we go...!
Honestly, I donât think this guy gets enough credit for being one of the most genuinely funny Alfreds I think thereâs ever been, and he expresses every. single. word. of the script and score. You can see Alfredâs thought process literally written across his face. If Sergey Denisov is the worldâs most thoughtful, internal Alfred, Michael has to be the worldâs most emotive, external.Â
Even lines as simple as âdann klingt aus dir Musikâ are given a little reaction; he hesitates, as though taken aback by what heâs just read (...understandably), frowns in confusion, leans away from the book and squints at the text...then keeps reading. Itâs such a tiny moment. And the line âmehr als tausend worteâ; he stares into space with a dreamy smile, and then does this tiny bashful laugh which I guarantee is the cutest darn thing you will see all day:
LOOK HOW HAPPY THIS BOY IS WITH HIS BOOK OF DAFT POETRY UGH
Then we have Herbertâs entrance. What I love about Michaelâs Alfred is that, unlike a lot of Alfreds, he doesnât spend the entirety of Wenn Liebe staring into space with One (1) Expression, whilst Herbert does all the work. Michaelâs Alfred manages to up the comedy 1000% by reacting to everything Herbert does, e.g. this amazing scrunched-up one-eyed squint when Herbert passes a hand across his forehead, or letting out this ridiculous dramatic gasp when his hand is kissed, or when he realises Herbertâs snuck up behind him, and the audience genuinely BURSTS out laughing at his expression of horror:
Poor Herbert was given a slightly strange make-up job for this particular run, but thatâs a topic for a whole other post...
Like, you love him because heâs adorable and emotive, but heâs also just so much fun to watch. Even at the very end of Wenn Liebe, when the Professor is having a go at him, he starts shaking his head and babbling a defence, but heâs also trying to balance this GIANT bag with one arm and not drop it, and itâs just funny. He is so funny. And sweet. And expressive. And lovely.Â
I know heâs an old-school Alfred at this point, but I feel like thereâs still room in the fandom for another Michfred Appreciation Post, so...yes. This is that post.
