We have an open question for Michael Cote, whose "climate adaptation" blog we follow and enjoy.  We've been unable to ask a question at "Ask Me Stuff" or we'd have used that venue.

Michael's blog describes his purpose and defines climate adaptation:

What is "climate adaptation"?  Adaptation is not about carbon, greenhouse gases, or energy. It's about lowering risks from environmental impacts caused by climate change.  Adaptation is the sweet-spot between environmental policy, climate science, land-use, and engineering.  When the sea-level rises, we build wall or move the buildings.  We build levees to protect homes from floods; manage forests to prevent wildfires and droughts; build smarter, stronger infrastructure for long-term economic resilience; and prepare public health officials for increased rates of pests and diseases from rising temperatures.  So, adaptation is less Al Gore "save the planet" and more Bob the Builder "fix all the things!".

Our Questions:

How can climate adaptation NOT have to do with energy use? or CO2 levels?

How can climate adaptation be MORE about "fixing things" but LESS about "save  the planet?"  Aren't the two intimately related and equally important?

How is it that "lowering risks from environmental impacts caused by climate change" is addressed better by "Bob the Builder" ("fix... things") and less by "Al Gore" ("save the planet").

We think Western Culture (politics, academics, etc.) likes to see things as "OR" and has difficulty seeing things as "AND."  Academics, for example, are rewarded for adopting this template for thinking.

We are genuinely and respectfully puzzled by Michael's mission statement and definition of climate adaptation.

I could stare at this all day. The way she moves her hand in a so confident way, like she has done that 100 times before and she just knows that he's gonna do that. She accepts it because she knows him, she knows how he is and she just acknowledge his "being himself". I love their brother/sister relationship so much and I'm glad they're not and (as far as I know) they've never been together before because it'll just ruin what they have. (off-screen. on screen Tony and Ziva have sex every episode and I'd be the happiest person in the world)
