#michael 2

hmm this is interesting because tbh my expectations of the first one was exactly what I thought it was going to be. I’ll elaborate a bit here..

I didn’t expect crazy depth considering I knew they were aiming for it to be more of a “blockbuster” release biopic and not much of a documentary film abt michael. apart from them leaving out certain things in the first movie due to legalities I think the movie was very beginner friendly. neither in a good or bad way. I think they reached the audience they tried to reach. the soundtrack featured some of if not THE MOST popular/common michael songs for the years covered. which is great, however, I did turn to my mom after the closing scene (although incredibly performed by jaafar!!) and say “I feel like michael would’ve ended this with Man in the Mirror.”

so I think it’s really abt a certain narrative that they want to push for this biopic. the one that could cater to fans, a new generation of fans and even people who weren’t necessarily fans before but are interested in seeing a new biopic. don’t get me wrong, there are a few easter eggs in the film for michael supporters, for example his orange juice, but the overall storyline was very surface and blockbuster. they executed exactly what they were going for.

which brings me to my point about the second movie. I hope that they address a lot of the heavier parts of the next few years of michael’s life. however, due to legalities, the “non exciting” specifics for a blockbuster film, I highly doubt a lot of things that I would like for them to cover, will be covered.

I think in the first one with the “no one is going to understand you outside this family” and the “you’re going to be around people who constantly say ‘yes’ to you” is almost like a soft launch for what’s to come. however, I don’t think it’s going to be incredibly detailed. they will def add some kind of “shock factor” event for the climax of the film, like they did with the pepsi commercial sequence. which I do believe was monumental and life altering for michael.

tho I do believe in the upcoming years in which are presumed to be covered there’s a lot of “shock factor” events that michael endured that I believe shaped him as well. and as you said, as depressing as that is, I do hope that they capture even a sliver of that. apart from how resilient and strong michael was, he’s still a human with real feelings and emotions, and the media amongst other things/ppl completely ripped into him. thinking abt it tho, they didn’t exactly address much of the tabloid/media junk in the later half of the first film.. I mean, I’d say he got a lot of media heat in the 80’s as well but that wasn’t shown.

overall, I’m expecting kind of a copy paste formula for the second movie. common soundtrack, a well known “shock factor” event, surface trials and tribulations, and then an “exciting” michael triumph sequence.
