Hey bev!! I'm really sorry if you've already answered this question (which you most likely have) but I'd thought I'd give it a shot. So, do you have any advice on making an art portfolio? I really love your art and I thought you might be able to give me some good tips. Again I'm sorry for taking up your time w this question, but thank you for reading anyway!!
no problem! if you’re thinking of art school application portfolios i have this tag, but here are some tips for applying to industry jobs. when i use ‘they’ i mean recruiters and reviewers
remember you’re essentially offering them a skill set, but you’re also offering your unique perspectives, expertise, and style. they’re reviewing thousands of portfolios of people who can render, use light, draw the figure, so everything you make should be reflective of you, as well as do all that (this is why jobs are competitive, sorry this sounds bleak ._.;)
range - practice different methods, styles, characters, faces, poses, objects, etc.
storytelling (bolded because literally every recruiter i’ve talked to has emphasized its importance) - include art that tells a story - it doesn’t even have to be sequential to do so. they want to see that you’re creating your own characters, world, and mood
i know ‘passion’ isn’t really concrete advice, but try to incorporate something you’re passionate about into everything you do, even things that seem boring at first. technical proficiency lays a good foundation but passion is what really what sets art apart
thank you and i hope this helped somewhat!

i love it when you’ve seen enough work by an artist to instantly recognize their style and be able to differentiate their works from other artists’ works. like there’s nothing you can really say to describe how you know it’s a particular artist’s work....you just know.
