L:

(A, Realistic)- he and Light were both knowingly bullshitting each other during the "first ever friend" exchange, but it was also a code between them that they were saluting each other as very interesting opponents. I definitely prefer the manga version of this little scene a lot

(B, Not Realistic but Hilarious)- he went over to Light's house during the university arc to "study" and pretended to mistake Sayu's room for Light's room because of all the Hideki Ryuga posters on the wall. Light was fuming extra hard about it because he was secretly thinking: "YOU KNOW THAT'S NOT MY BEDROOM BECAUSE YOU PUT 64 HIDDEN CAMERAS IN MY ACTUAL BEDROOM, YOU ASS"

(C, Heart-Crushing)- he doesn't really know what being loved actually feels like, and most of the time he thinks he's fine with that, but once in a while it hits him hard and he doubles down even more on his work to avoid thinking about it more

(D, Disregarding Canon)- I like to disregard the first!L stuff if only because it makes people sometimes think he was putting on an act with the task force the whole time, when in my eyes he was very clearly always being himself

Hi! I have a few post about this here already but I'm sure they are hard to find by now... hmm

L: a mischievous and generous drunk, buys people ridiculously expensive stuff and puts everything on his tab, likes drinking games and ordering drinks with suggestive sounding names, gets very hungover and grumpy the next day

LIGHT: a flirty and a fairly lightweight drunk, laughs a lot more often, starts looking kinda slutty somehow even if he hasn't changed his outfit or anything like that. Takes forever in the bathroom staring at himself in the mirror.

NEAR: doesn't like drinking that much but gets very active and opinionated when he does. No filter kinda drunk, if you do something he thinks is stupid in front of him he's definitely gonna tell you

MELLO: gets quieter and friendlier than usual, likes to lounge around and listen to everything going on. Always actually follows through on the wild drunken schemes he comes up with at 3 am even after sobering up

MATT: just keeps trying to get more and more wasted, no concern for his actual tolerance levels, and mixes all kinds of substances together. Never just drinks, he's always smoking and taking pills and making homemade bongs and zoning out in front of video games or hitting on everyone trying to get laid. Often found passed out on the couch at 4 am halfway through trying to cook something he dug out of the host's deep freezer

CHARACTERS WHO REMIND ME OF L:

JUGHEAD from the Archie comics:

I think it’s mostly the casual disregard for social norms, the desire to be comfortable at all times, and the voracious appetite for junk food! Jughead is much lazier and less manipulative than L is, though.

2D from The Gorillaz:

This is almost entirely just a visual similarity to me, but it’s the spooky eyes and the spiky hair and the pointy jaw and the spindly fingers and the brooding face. He seems like kind of a quieter loner type character as well.

TRACER BULLET from Calvin & Hobbes:

Calvin’s hardboiled sleuth alter-ego. I feel like L’s bits in the manga have similar vibes to these strips, how they strike the right noir detective vibes and also make you laugh simultaneously.

ELLIOT from Mr. Robot:

I just started watching this show the other day and he gives me major L Lawliet vibes. Super smart loner with a dark past, socially awkward but likes to use his technological hacking skills to both help people and snoop and do shady things, big spooky eyes and a strong jawline, strange sexual tension with a clean-cut equally intelligent sinister dude in a suit with pretty hair and a nice watch…
