1) “Not even a red flag the size of the empire state building would be enough to make them leave their teammates behind”-They’re in this fight together, and they’ll win it together! Also, for Mineta’s part, there’s the fact he will get absolutely ‘creamed’ if Midoria or Uraraka goes down and they lose their front-line fighters, so he’s got no choice but to leap into the fray and hope he can make an opening for one of the others to take them down- they are fighting with a 5-4 handicap here as well, so a single lost teammate is very bad news for them.

2) “oh boy, this is about to get out of control pretty quickly, all the plans both sides had just got yeet’d out of the window, now its time to improvise.’- On the one hand, improvisation in the face of unexpected disaster is the butter to 1A’s favoured dish of pain sandwich, on the other Shinso’s had first-hand experience of what it’s like to fight by the seat of your pants and work out a strategy on the fly, so he’ll  probably be wise to their tricks, plus with the number advantage and the fact that nobody can keep track of Shinso in this melee, and the odds are still fairly balanced.

3) “Oh okay, thankfully its not the whole costume that looks like a Titan cosplay, just the upper half, and that’s already pushing beyond what would be acceptable as a costume.”- Were he holding a sword rather than clenching a fist to punch with, I’d believe that Nappa Jr was mid-pose in striking down a titan with 3DMG- dude’s got some jumping height on him for such short legs

4) “FIGHT RANGED AGAINST THE RANGED FIGHTER.”- well, if he can figure out the ‘trigger’ to activate Black whip then that would be ideal, but unfortunately, like most of his other abilities most likely, it’ll only activate if he truly needs it. That said, if he can get it working, I wonder if it’s be like a sentient rope for grappling and binding, or an extra-arm like appendage for grabbing or punching. If he can actually get it working like a real whip, there’s a particular scene in season 3 of Castlevania where Trevor gets the opportunity to duel-wield whips, and I’d kill to see Midoria recreating that scene with Blackwhip agasitn Shinso- possibly with a backing of ‘bloody tears’ for soundtrack.

5) “Oh, they are in position? Thank god they arrived, just in the nick of time to see that they are late as all hell and the kids already got back to murdering each other to death”-I’m actually impressed that All Might was able to keep up with the two of them even without OFA powering him- did vlad have to give him a piggyback ride on the way there?

6) “And Midoriya… Oh lord, I don’t think the tentacles will act up again, but there are still other powers that can show up at any moment… This will be interesting…”-It’s interesting that Midoria’s arm is hiding his mouth- can’t tell if he’s smiling for the rematch as well, or concerned with trying to find a way to take Shinso out without accidently vaporising him with his new abilities…

7) “A narrative device, the character needs a ever-growing challenge to keep up to his development, and ho-l-y fuck is Midoriya going to have a hard task now. Getting one power under control was already hard enough, but now there’s other 6 of them, and remember, those are powers that are on the same level of power as the super strength that All Might used.”- Technically it’s most like they ‘will’ be powers on the same level once Midoria’s proficient enough at channelling more than one power whilst using Full Cowling at the same time. It’s a little unclear, but it’s implied that the ‘base’ strength of the quirk is the same as it was prior to before merging with OFA, it’s when the powers mix with the amplification of Full Cowling at higher percentages that the new quirks evolve and become stronger- like a lightbulb shining brighter the more electricity you pump through it. 

The difficulty lies in each new quirk having new powers and capacities means that each one is on a different electric ‘frequency’ so to use more than one power at a time in Full Cowling means having to channel different wavelengths of power simultaniously, and not losing concentration in either lest these powers go out of control and become ‘too’ strong. Even the power-stockpiling quirk was very weak at the start, which is why AFO thought it was perfect for his brother- it’s only  after accumulating enough energy over the 8 generations that it can reach OFA’s current feats, and it’s technically sharing that accumulated energy with the other quirks when Midoria uses them in tandem.

8) “Oh god no no no, better not even try this one, because I’ll either get something right then I’ll be boasting about it for days and my sister will have to whoops my ass, or I’ll get it all wrong and then I’ll be complaining about it for days and my sister will have to whoop my ass. “- Ok, if you’re fine with not taking a guess, My personal theory is that the quirks will push Deku the rest of the way into becoming a superman expy- All Might had the cape, the muscles and the personality, to an extent, so Deku will compliment that with similar abilities to Sups, as befitting one of the top heroes in comic fiction, becoming similar to him will place Deku into the number 1 hero spot for certain. I also believe that the quirks will somehow work in tandem and not counteract each other, similar to Todoroki’s fire and ice offsetting each other’s extremes, and whatever his new quirks are they won’t involve a transformation aspect, so he won’t grow extra arms or hulk out, or start looking like shoji. 

Granted, he already got a Spiderman quirk so he won’t be a straight one-to-one copy of superman in terms of powers, but I’m betting on flight, laser eyes, possibly super-senses in some capacity, some kind of defensive quirk to enable him to endure hits that even All Might couldn’t, and possibly some kind of seemingly useless but ultimately devastating if used correctly power- like a lethal joke weapon… actually I think I already discussed this elsewhere, give me a second to look it up…

Found it. Was a reply to another liveblogger whose name shall be amended until we’ve caught up to their positon at the most recent chapter, as there is spoilers abound with them- and truly interesting character discussions as well, but, oh, the spoilers!

**********, I liked some of your suggestions for Deku’s possible new powers and I’d like to offer a few amendments to them. First, the flying- I don’t think Midoria will get actual complete flying on his own, that would render Uraraka’s quirk and the utility of their team-up somewhat redundant. However, instead I think Midoria will get a Gliding quirk- something that lets him slow his falling speed to a gentle descent which, combined with the heights he can reach thanks to One for All (remember, All Might was able to jump across cities in a single bound at the beginning) allow him to travel great distances- if he combines that with Black whip, he could even carry multiple people aloft as they gently float down from any tall buildings he needs to rescue them from. Think of it in similar terms to Spyro- Midoria has permanent access to the short gliding the dragon can pull off anytime, but it’s only with Uraraka’s quirk that he gains the ability to keep himself aloft and ascending- just like one of the flying power-ups from the game. 

Of course there would be problems using it at first- I imagine Deku would need to keep his arms and legs spread-eagled like he’s wearing a wingsuit in order to keep the quirk active at first, and needs to be constantly concentrating so he doesn’t break his posture and cancel the gliding by accident, plus not letting his flight path get upset and derailed by the wind currents- using it is like a delicate balancing act on a tightrope at first, and Deku kinda has to physically keep himself tense to stay in the right mind-set lest he plummet. I’ve actually got the mental image of him training with the gliding and straining himself so much to keep aloft as long as he can that he looks like he’s going to soil himself, causing Aizawa to side-eye ayoama like ’what the hell have you been teaching this guy when I’m not looking?’ so yeah, it’s more like falling with style in practice, if not a lot of grace and dignity during the initial training, but really, flying’s just falling sideways. 

As for the psychic defence, I liked the idea- if the wielders are able to interact in a mental realm against any incoming astral projections -which technically, they are as well- it may give us a chance to see how the previous generation fought and what their personalities were like in action- if Deku ever encounters a villain that can project himself into his mind, I imagine it’d be a bit like Bill Cypher entering Gruncle Stan’s mind, opening the door to see all the predecessors standing there with big, unfriendly grins in their faces, Hellboy Jack holding a big stick with a nail in it and saying ’We’re going to show you what we think of Mr Clever Dick in these parts.’ Cue violent and gratuitous astral beat down. As for the Spidey sense, I dunno- it seems like it would infringe a bit too much on copyrighting spidey’s abilities right now, plus Deku’s already has an analytical mind-set that lets him keep aware of his surroundings and his opponents next plan of attack, but maybe there’ll be something in a similar vein that gives him an edge or awareness of his blind spots to prevent sneak attacks mid-battle. 

I agree there’ll probably be some kind of useless-seeming quirk in there, but I don’t know if it’ll be an object creating one- maybe he can do something like projecting his inner thoughts out loud like a loudspeaker so everybody hears exactly what he’s thinking, giving no filter between his thoughts and those around him, leading to some naturally embarrassing situations until he figures out the power can also apply to others, letting him hear what they’re thinking and giving him access to their plan of attack mid-battle- that may need to be somewhat nerfed though- like, he can do it to himself 24/7 because it’s his own body, but he might need some kind of trigger to use it on someone else like Nighteye’s quirk did. And I don’t think he’ll have a time-stopping quirk, but if he does have something similar, he may suffer adverse effects from using it out with whatever situation initially forces him to unlock the power- like how ****** started suffering health problems from using his own time-stopping power because his human body wasn’t capable of existing in an unnatural environment of frozen time for long.

1) “Oh boy, here we go, time for our friend Leathervest McBaldgoogles to imprint his knowledge unto Midoriya “- “get your shit together and things normally work out fine!”- words of true wisdom right there. You know, it occurs to me that whilst each of these guys may be capable of training Midoria in using both their quirk and how to be a better hero, the only confirmed one we know had a master-apprentice relationship prior to their death, and thus experience in handling a young trainee the right way, was nana. Knowing his luck, Midoria just got saddled with a bunch of All Might dudes just doing their best with what life experience they’ve got, and the only person that actually knows the right way to go about things is the sole woman in his head (that we’ve confirmed- there could be another girls in there somewhere but we won’t know for sure until the full line-up is confirmed)

2) “Oh, okay, maybe he can hear his thoughts, it would make sense since they are inside his head. Maybe.”-I think he’s just judging Midoria’s response face on the wide-eyed look of shock and confusion on his face and him groping vainly at the spot where his mouth should be. It must actually be incredibly disorientating for Midoia in that half-shaped from right now- he must still be able to ‘feel’ his hand connected to the rest of him, but without any of the interconnecting parts actually existing, and it looks like he’s capable of shoving said hand into and out of the void beneath his eyes where his mouth should be- it’s almost like he’s stuck in a half-ghostly state where parts of him are incorporeal and the rest of him isn’t fully formed, which I suppose gives him an idea of what Miro went through when using his own quirk.

3) “Yeah, I think we’ll get into some pretty disturbing implications about what being a holder of OfA, that is, if he isn’t really a ghost and this connection is Midoriya contacting him on heaven. The tittle said “realm of souls”, maybe it isn’t entirely on Midoriya’s head.”-  “of course this is happening inside your head, young Izuku, but why on earth should that mean it isn’t real?” Technically, this is both occurring in Midoria’s head ‘and’ within whatever metaphysical realm has formed within OFA, made up of their collective unconscious and containing imprints of the past wielders who bonded with the power, making Midoria a literal Hive-Mind, albeit one he doesn’t have a good connection to right now unless he upgrades the bandwidth. If this was the afterlife, Midoria would be able to pose some really uncomfortable questions to priest arounds the world with his own personal ‘stairway to heaven’ stuck inside his head, so it’s more like the original body and soul may have passed on, but he’s got copies of them remaining within OFA that are capable of advising and informing him based on what experiences the original wielder went through when holding the quirk. 

It’s a bit ambiguous as to whether they can inform him or advise him of things out with their own life experience, such as watching and observing Midoria’s school life or personal life and giving him pep talks with that, or if they are capable of observing the world around Midoria and learning of events and situations beyond what they would have experienced when they were alive. Basically, if Midoria strengthens the connection, Its unclear if he’ll literally have fully-sentient ghosts hanging out it his head, watching his life like the world’s most interesting reality TV show when there’s no other channels, or static copies that can only give advice pertaining to situations the original wielders experienced directly, such as Hellboy Jack here advising on how to use his quirk and what went wrong.

4) “You’re making a perfect clone of you, with all your memories, and throwing they into the abyss without even knowing.”- Personally, given the implication that all 7 generations died in despair and agonising pain at AFO’s hands, barring perhaps his younger brother, with only the vain hope that their successor would be able to do better than them given enough time, I think the other successors are a-OK with their current circumstances. They technically get to see how the story ‘ends’ for them, and witness first-hand the growth of the new generation, watching how the heroes of the future rise to face the challenges that conquered them in the past, and now they even have the ability to help those heroes both indirectly and directly with their powers and advice. Not to mention they’ll get to see AFO utterly crushed ‘3’ times over. 

Sure, All Might may have had a truly horrible connection with this Hive Mind, to the point he’s still unaware of it even whilst it’s coming to fruition in his successor and his own avatar is half-formed at best, but the past Successors got a front-row seat with watching AFO get turned into mash potatoes, and I bet you a few of them were going ‘Dong, Dong The Bastard’s dead!” when that happened, then Nana got to give him some indirect payback at Kamino, and now they’ll get a front-row seat to Midoria finally putting an end to him once and for all. All told, it’s a significant step up in circumstances compared to how they originally died.

5) “Midoriya, your minutes are almost up, I knew you should’ve taken the other package.”-A good cap on the utility of Midoria’s hive-mind powers is giving him only a limited time to converse and speak to each Successor, and I’m willing to bet there’s only so many times he can contact them per day as well- this entire info dump happened in the spilt second when Shinso knocked him into the Sunken Place and his new quirk got sucked back inside him, so if he’s able to hit the ‘pause’ button whenever he wants mid-fight and get some expert advice on how to deal with the situation, that’s a fairly broken ability in its own right- and it’s not even the main advantage of Midoaira’s newly evolved OFA to boot!

6) “Excuse-moi, what ze fuck was that?

Come again? What? Your…”-Man, I am so glad you didn’t figure this out in advance. This other live blogger that I read, currently up to date on the manga chapters, unfortunately spoiled themselves on this when perusing the internet, so it’s good to see somebody get the full impact of this wham line full blast.

7) “Not only their memories are in the quirk as some sort of biological backup, oh no, their quirks are literally fused with the very essence of the main quirk, that means, they are now a part of it, like the ability to pass the quirk and the ability to stockpile power fused into a new quirk.”- The clue was in the definition of OFA’s other core ability all along. Along with the inherent ability to pass itself along, it fused with the ability to ‘stockpile’ power first as its core, and thus most useful function. The definition of stockpile is ’a large accumulated stock of goods or materials, especially one held in reserve for use at a time of shortage or other emergency’. 

The quirk accumulating quirks, a source of power separate, yet an integral part of the wielder, therefore makes sense- in fact a lot of people were long-theorising that deku could have absorbed the quirks of his predecessors since the first few chapters, especially since All Might demonstrated durability that seemed to go beyond what you could achieve even with a body empowered by OFA, and since maths and logic indicates that at least 1 of the intervening successors had a quirk, especially as they became more prevalent throughout the generations. Honestly the fact that the most recent holders were quirkless when quirks are at an all-time commonality, whilst the original holders all ended up having quirks in a time when they were still uncommon is an ironic note of how OFA’s been accumulated so far.

8) “One for All basically did the same thing that his brother did, mixing powers and creating a new power, but he did that in a completely different way: He allowed it to happen naturally, he didn’t mash the power together, he let them slowly bond.”-The power is literally the good counterpart of AFO- in fact I think the main difference is in how they chose to create their quirks, either by choice or by nature. AFO ‘assimilates’ other quirks forcibly into himself, stripping them away from the original wielders and mixing them together as befits his fancy, whereas OFA passively ‘absorbed’ itself into the other wielders, empowering them at the cost of the original holder and allowing them to be more than they once were, with the possible unexpected bonus that the original wielders would technically get a ‘get out of heaven free’ card once the quirk had developed long enough. 

That said, it does leave one major question- if OFA naturally merges with the wielder’s original quirks and is able to store said quirk within itself, does passing OFA on not only leave you bereft of the power boost, but your own natural quirk as well? How many of the older wielders ended up dying to AFO not just because he was so strong, but because they’d already passed OFA to their successors and were in the same situation All Might was in at Kaino, except not even using every last ember of strength they had left was enough because they just weren’t powerful enough to beat him with the dregs of their remaining superpowers? It would be a nice balance to OFA’s current OP status- you gain massive power boosts, multiple quirks, and mentors who can teach you how to master your new abilities to the full stored with your head, but the catch is that you’ve eventually got to pass that power on, and in the process eventually loss not only your new strength, but any natural-born abilities you had originally as they were absorbed into the core of OFA whilst you held it. Not to mention being a natural target for AFO during the rest of your lifetime as well.

9) “Oh fuck no then Midoriya is back to square one, since now there are other parts of his quirk that he needs to learn how to control.”-Glad you picked up on that main drawback- a lot of people were immediately calling ‘hax’ on Midoria’s new tiers of strength that he can reach with 7 combined quirks, but that’s ignoring the main problem in that even mastering the base abilities of OFA hasn’t gotten any farther than comfortably using 20% in a pinch, and now midoria’s got 6 new and vastly different skill trees to put points and effort into mastering, not to mention the difficulties that will come from combining and utilising his different quirks in tandem with each other. 

Sure, he’s going to be broken as hell when he’s an adult and has a better grasp of everything, but from the beginning it was made clear that Midoria was going to become the number 1 hero, and having unique abilities that put All Might to shame will be a massive help in letting him become a better hero than his mentor, not to mention helping to distance the similarites between the two for anybody who might be thinking they’re connected because of their similar quirk. Also, with the hints that Deku’s going to be facing AFO before his school life comes to a finish, he frankly needs to have this kind of ridiculous power in his corner just to stand a chance, because it’s unlikely he’ll have mastered even 1 of his quirks by that point, and will have to make do by mixing his varied abilities together alongside whatever backup he has in the face of AFO’s superior quirk combinations.

10) “HOLY FUCK THAT MEANS HE HAS NEW POWERS NOW”-

And because Persona 5 Royal’s still on my mind: All this time Midoria thought he had an inherited quirk/persona that All Might and the others had spent their lives level-grinding up to maximum stats and abilities, only to discover when it was his turn that he’d really inherited the power of the wild card, and now has access to every elemental combo/ multiple quirks. Whereas most other people have set elemental affinities and moves in battle, Deku’s new powers, once he figures out what they are, will allow him to preform multiple roles in a team match, able to use a greater variety of moves than anybody else and have multiple options for dealing with his foes, depending on if he wants to beat them, capture them, or rob the…. I mean, protect civilians. Midoria’s talent of managing his own teammate’s quirks in his crazy plans means he’s actually already prepared to handle multiple quirks and strategies on his own some- he’s an entire team all by himself, or at least he will be once he unlocks his other options/different personas. In fact, now I think on it, ‘Aria of the Soul’ would be some nice background OST for this ethereal realm within OFA.

1) “Baldman: You have some pent-up anger that you need to deal with, you know? In a healthy way, mind you.”-I actually really like that Hellboy Jack here actually points out how anger can be a constructive power if utilised properly, and getting mad isn’t a bad thing, but losing control like Midoria did is. Given his own hot-blooded nature, it’s fitting he’d be equipped to council Midoria on how to channel his emotions and his quirk properly- in fact it’s kinda ironic that such an outspoken gut ended up having a quirk that requires delicate control of yourself in the heat of battle.

2) “Oh, now we have a real explanation for the rampaging darkness. He said it was his quirk, sure, but now I see that it was acting exactly like it was supposed to: Manifesting black tendrils to capture his foes, and probably move around.”- Somebody else once pointed out that Black whip in its controlled state here resembles the flowing ink calligraphy that was used in the animated opening of the original disney’s Mulan, all smoothly controlled and looping strands of darkness that shifts between fluid and incorporeal as needed.

3) “Oh, and that’s even better, not only he has more power that he needs to learn how to control, but they are absolutely terrifying in terms of power. Those were quirks of pro heroes mind you, they already were top-grade back then, and now they were incubated into monstrosities that could kill someone without even batting an eye.”-Yeah, that rampaging thrashing monstrosity of the Quirk Deku formed to Catch Monoma? He was charging up his Air Force Move before Black Whip emerged instead, which requires him to channel 20% full Cowling through his arm and fingers. Meaning that rampage, which wreaked significant portions of the area, and was capable of reaching both groups far away from each other, was done by a Blackwhip at 20% power, and with Midoria actively trying to ‘supress’ it as well, even if his emotional turmoil was also making the quirk lash out and flare up in response. 

A 100% black whip could conceivably cover entire city blocks, or cover Midoira and the area around him in a wide radius with Blackwhip tendrils for protection or detection as needed. That’s not even getting into if the quirk’s evolution allows Blackwhip to pull off moves that not even the original wielders could do. For instance, from what Jack here says the quirk functions like a lasso, reaching out and drawing your target back in before vanishing once the opponent was in range, but if Midoria’s charged Blackwhip has evolved properties, Midoria might be able to take a leaf out of Spiderman’s book and create temporary-lasting Blackwhip constructs to pin villains down and hold things together as needed without him being nearby to maintain them. At the moment, the main problem will come from Midoria learning how to ‘duel wield’ his new quirks at the same time. It seems the ‘base’ state of Blackwhip without being charged up by OFA is the short-range tendrils Jack’s waving around for demonstration here, so Midoria’s problem right now is that he can’t use Blackwhip and Full cowling at the same time, or at least in the same limb together, since both will intermingle and create another explosive rampaging tentacle of teenage emotions, and the same goes for his other quirks. 

OFA’s primarily power right now, besides the whole ‘mental hub room’ aspect we’ve just discovered, is amplification. It amplifies Deku’s muscles to an insane degree, and when it’s mixed with the other active quirks inside Deku it amplifies their effects. Thus, whilst Full Cowling maybe be Deku’s go-to when using OFA, he’s got to be careful about activating the other quirks whilst he’s using it, since that runs the risk of losing control if he’s not focused enough, which is difficult to do in the heat of battle. For now, Deku has to master using the powers individually to some degree before he can work on mixing them together like he accidentally did here.

4) “So now Midoriya join the ranks of protagonists whose powers react to their emotions. I mean, in theory every single power out there is affected by the user’s emotional state, but in his case it is a bit more extreme.”- To some degree, this is one of the worst powers that Midoira could have activated right now, because he’s already got enough normal teenage emotional drama going on without the whole successor aspect weighing him down and causing additional stress. Getting a quirk that gets stronger in response to his emotions at an extremely important phase of his teenage life seems like a cruel joke on Horikoshi’s part really, and it might get even worse once they move on to actual school relationship drama in a few years time.

5) “So right now Midoriya has to strength his heart so that power doesn’t run out of control again. Midoriya was angry at Monoma and it got out of control, and he wasn’t able to get it under control because he got angry at himself for failing to control that power.”- Midoria’s self-doubt and issues over being quirkless have always been a great flaw in his character to the point his desire to help others in spite of himself is detrimental to him at times, and now he’s been given a power that will literally go wild and slap him silly if he lets those emotions grow too strong… we’re not done with the Evil Dead shout-outs yet, I guarantee you.

6) “Ohhhhhh… Maybe there is something there… If the power was only reasonable strong before All Might, and then he turned it into a past-singularity type of quirk, then that means that there was something that changed, and I think I know what: He was the first holder that was quirkless. The fact that he didn’t had a power may be what allowed OfA to grow to such heights, since it wasn’t busy fusing another quirk unto itself it had time to develop and grow. “-Regardless of whether it was time or enough people incubating OFA within themselves like the world’s most destructive egg, the situation with All Might and Deku’s different mastery of their usage of OFA’s abilities is like the inverse of the situation in the Avatar series. Avatar Korra was able to stop the fire nation by mastering only the brute-force basics of the power, whereas her successor in Secret, Avatar Aang now finds himself having to not only protect Republic city from threats within and without the country, but also master the unique ability called the ‘Avatar state’ that only started manifesting for him out of all the previous avatars, discovering the hidden truths about the nature of the avatar in the process.

7) “Oh… So it is the end of the line. They know that Midoriya will be the last one in the line of holders, because he’ll be the one to allow it to break free and release all that power. In this long game of hot potato, Midoriya was the one that lost.”-Technically he won, but it sure doesn’t feel that way to Midoria, who thought he was inheriting All Might’s cool car that turned out to be a DeLorean Time machine that threatens to tear about the universe he loves if he mishandles it, and I think I’ve lost the plot of this metaphor somewhere….

8) “And if Midoriya really is the son of AfO, like we know he is, that means that his bloodline was the birth and death of this power, the beginning and the end. Midoriya will be the last Great Hero to carry the torch…”-Heck, if Midoria is AFO’s son, the entire ‘reason’ he can wield multiple quirks like this so efficiently and without blowback is precisely because of his genetics. Remember, The Nomu’s are the only things other than AFO and Midoria that can use more than 2 quirks, discounting situations like Shoto’s where your quirk is technically a 2-for-1 package, and they required extensive bio-engineering just to be able to handle the strain of it, not to mention how their minds and bodies got lost on the process. 

AFO may delve into their territory when he stacks multiple quirks for maximum efficiently rather than allowing the human form to limit their power, but otherwise he’s completely in control of his abilities and the transformations he undergoes, and can use his quirks however he likes without suffering loss of intelligence or sanity- he was even able to keep All Might in a mental corner throughout much of their final fight despite twisting and distorting his body through his quirk usage. Now Midoria’s able to use multiple quirks at once as well, and whilst he hasn’t yet got the hang of it, for his first-time usage, he’s not suffered any mental effects, nor has his arm exploded into a lump of flesh from channelling 2 different types of quirk at once through the same limb- there was some body horror when the tentacles were twisting his arm around like a puppet on a strong, but that was the effect of his emotions empowering his capture quirk to twist his arm around in an effort to capture something as per it’s intended usage- Midoria’s arm is perfectly fine afterwards. Literally nobody else has been able to do what Midoria just did without enhancements or manipulating genetics in your favour… ‘except’ AFO, who does it naturally. Sure, it might be a side effect of OFA itself, but it’s entirely possible that Midoira’s similarities to AFO is not just because the powers they wield are twins in function, even if this fact was only recently discovered.

Shinso is controlling him, but not the other 8 people in there.”- It also means Midoria has a natural defence/immunity to similar mental mind control tricks if anybody else tires to incapacitate or control him in the line of duty, which is another point towards how overpowered OFA is at its current potential.

He can obviously see from Midoria’s whole demonstration there that he’s fighting against somebody way above him in terms of power, yet the second he sees an opening he goes straight for the kill, because that’s his only real option of scoring a win for the team, even if it means running the risk of getting the full blast of Midoria’s angsty teenage tentacles of darkness….
