I'm once again plagued by ideas of stories I don't have time to write. Now I'm wanting to write a fantasy story about a conflict between a terrible evil villain and a noble hero, which the villain wins in a way, because as they were about to be killed they used magic to reincarnate into a baby, knowing the hero would never kill a helpless baby, and it would give time for them to recover while the hero ages. So the hero takes care of the baby, keeping an eye on them, but then it turns out the plan failed, because the person the baby is most definitely isn't the original villain, and being raised with love and taught by a caring parent would never lead to them becoming a monster. The kid of course doesn't know their origins, but is then horrified to find out what they were, and believing that the parent they loved so much was just keeping them close in case they needed to kill them, completely unaware the hero saw that they were not one and the same and really loved them as a parent would.
