Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries enjoyers, I have a question: how do you find Miss Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries?
I've never seen it and I wonder if it's worth a watch. But I have few issues to start with, so should I really consider it a - let's say - a sequel, or just as a totally different series where the characters' names are just a coincidence?
Because what doesn't really sit with me is the fact that the modern Miss Fisher is supposed to be Phryne's niece. And well, how's that possible? Phryne's sister's dead, I believe they didn't have any other siblings, or at least they were never mentioned, but that would be such a lame thing to do, to just add another sibling to her and Janey. Phryne's cousin from Aunt P. has a different last name, so the new girl wouldn't be Fisher. From what I recall, Phryne's father never mentioned any siblings of his, Eugene - his cousin (?) - is sentenced (to death, I guess?) and he never mentioned any of his supposed children to try to regain the title from Henry. And of course, Henry could've had 17 younger siblings, but even if he had, would they really inherit anything from Phryne? I mean, wouldn't she want Jane to be her inheritor (inheritee? is there a feminine gender for this one? Well, maybe I just should've said heir)? And if not Jane then at least one of Dot and Hugh's children?
And another important thing: does that mean they all died in the WWII? That's why we get this modern miss Fisher? Because everybody who could've inherit from Phryne and she wanted them to are dead? (I don't really know how inheritance law worked in late 1920s, let alone in Australia, but I assume she could've passed her property to whatever she wanted to). Rather disturbing.
Anyways, just wanted to know if it's worth a watch in general. I can forget the shows are somehow connected if it's a good one on its own. I'm about to finish my MFMM yearly rewatch and I wouldn't mind trying something new.
