I think I've only seen her in Scott Pilgrim. Anything of her's you recommend?
This movie is one of my Top 10, maybe even Top 5 of all times depending on what day you catch me lol. It’s everything a movie should be and more. It doesn’t depend on gimmicks, it didn’t cost a lot of money, and it’s not some crazy unbelievable farfetched tale. It’s human, it’s real, it’s tangible, it’s grounded, it’s everything that is good in film. At least for me.
Actually, there is a direct connection between this movie and CFAU. It’s a movie I will not admit I used as an inspiration. The stories are nothing alike but I *ALWAYS* go back to this movie when writing PJ chapters because I think it does such a wonderful job of showing a relationship falling apart. True story, there is a scene is this movie that in my mind is at the core of every Parker/Wila argument PJ. It is absolutely one of the things and particularly the scenes I’d give my actors to study for what I want in a performance because it’s so beautiful in its angry vulnerability. I could gush about this movie for hours tbh. I really could.
It’s really funny because when you look at my favorite movies most of them came out between like 2005 and 2013 I think. I think that was one of the best periods for indie cinema, coincidentally I also think it was one of the best period for indie/rock music. There was something about those years man...I feel like everything has taken a nosedive since then but that’s a conversation for another day lol. Now you just need to go watch Smashed.
Extra fun fact: I haven't particularly liked anything he's done since but based on the work he did on this movie alone I call James Ponsoldt one of my favorite directors. You know what else he did? He is one of the EPs on Sorry For Your Loss with Lizzie and one of the people single-handedly responsible for making it happen. He also directed 4/10 episodes. So this one dude has worked with two of my like top 3 favorite actresses in some amazing projects and I lowkey wanna be him.
