List the first lines of your last ten stories. See if you find any patterns.

Sorry it took me so long to get to this one. Life has been a bit crazy, but here it is!
Appellations:Â âYouâll need to choose a name.â Owain looked serious, and not in his overly dramatic hero way.
Instincts of a Fearful Body:Â âThe Air Nomads lived communally, in temples, to mitigate their spiritual attachments to belongings and the things of the physical realm.â
Direct to Video:Â Korra shifted her messenger bag a bit and rested the tablet on her hip.
Teambuilding Exercises:Â âToday is the day.â Asami smiled as she fell into step beside Opal. âAre you ready?â
Pai Sho and Timely Kisses:Â âGoodbye Korra, goodbye Asami!â
Spirit world flower drabble:Â âI thought you said the Spirit World was peaceful!â
Homecoming Frost:Â Annaâs breath fogged the tower window.
Roommate Bonding:Â Carmilla walked into the room and smirked as Laura jerked away from her computer.
Watermelon Doors and Mascara Waffles:Â Tap-tap-ta-tap-tap.
Sillage:Â Adgar was a good man, or at least he tried to be.Â
That was fun to compile. As for patterns, I think my best first lines are the ones that immediately present some form of conflict and get the story going in media res. The most successful ones here are the ones that present some form of contrast. These lines are far from perfect, but itâs interesting to take a look at them.
Contrast between the status quo and whatâs going on in the story presents an immediate stake for the reader because it automatically suggests two questions: âWhat is the status quo here?â and âWhy are things different now?â
I have a long way to go in regards to my first lines, but itâs nice to see those questions suggested in some of these lines. All I can do is keep on improving :P
Idk who to tag. Just about everyone else has done it already so -shrug-
