#meta compilation

Hey everyone! I’m not sure how many of you remember this user, but lostlittlesatellites or batterydeaddotdot was a well-known Jonsa meta-writer in our fandom. Sadly, they deactivated, and as far as I know, we don’t really know why. A big chunk of their amazing work seems to have been lost, which was so sad for so many of us.

But here’s the good news: I recently discovered that some of their metas were saved on the "Way Back Machine" site! So, I put together a list of some of their pieces to share with all of you. My aim is to help preserve their contributions, spread the love within our fandom, and celebrate the incredible mind that has helped to shaped our fandom.

Quick disclaimer: I haven’t read every single meta, so I don’t necessarily agree with everything that’s written. My main goal is just to share this with you all. And I skiped GOT-related metas for this list. Enjoy diving into lostlittlesatellites/batterydeaddotdot’s work!

I'm writing this on behalf of lostlittlesatellites/batterydeaddotdot, who has been my friend for many years and with whom I'm still in touch.

I showed her this post this morning, and she was deeply touched by it:

She told me that she wants you to know that she hasn't completely moved on from jonsa or asoiaf. At the time she deactivated she wasn't doing so well mentally and then she felt she needed space; but she sometimes lurks on here and she's glad that thet OP (@sanswstrk) retrieved some of her meta.

I don't have a definitive list. I know there is a site called The Jonsa Compendium that is very comprehensive.

And I have reblogged a number of posts that contain link collections and masterlists under my "meta compilation" tag, but that's probably leaving out anything I happened to miss.

This is pretty repetitive of what other people have been saying but I basically typed up very very brief summaries of the theories that have been going around, just to sort of organize my thoughts and figure out where I stand, and thought I’d share! So here ya go, this might help if you’ve been confused 

TST THEORIES/ META COMPILATION 

Mary isn’t really dead

-   When Sherlock was shot in HLV, Molly said, “It’s not like it is in the movies. There’s not a great big spurt of blood and you go flying backwards.” When Mary was shot in the exact same place as him, there was a great big spurt of blood and she flew backwards…. That’s quite suspicious

-   The TAB bride was “shot” and lived. Moriarty was “shot” and lived. Sherlock was shot and lived. It’s likely the same for Mary

-   “A dead woman walking” was a line used in reference to the the Abominable bride- then in this episode the same line was used for Mary

-   There’s more Mary footage from the trailers that we didn’t see in the episode. That means she comes back later

-   Mary is a villain okay… If she isn’t, it defies a whole lot of S3 foreshadowing

-  “Go to hell Sherlock” was meant to make us question her motives

-  The lady who shot Mary said “why does anyone do anything?” This exact line was previously used by a man being threatened into doing things he didn’t want to do by Moriarty. Possibly, that lady was forced into that situation by Mary and the whole thing was planned- by doing this, Mary made her inevitable death count and further drove a wedge between John and Sherlock by begging forgiveness in her final moments

John is working behind Sherlock’s back

-   Lady Carmichael said “You promised to keep him safe, you promised” to Sherlock when her husband died, but it is later revealed that was an act and she was involved in his murder. This possibly applies to John as well when he says to Sherlock “You made a vow [to protect her]” after Mary is shot

-   John didn’t go into full doctor mode and try to save Mary like he did when Sherlock was shot and when Bainbridge was dying

-    Perhaps John pushed Sherlock away after Mary’s death for his own safety- like his own version of Reichenbach

The whole thing was Sherlock retelling the situation while in therapy with Ella

-    This fits with the whole warped POV thing 

-    And why there are so many inconsistencies

-    Which is why everyone seemed ooc and the Watsons were a lot happier than they’re supposed to be- it’s Sherlock’s one sided, self-hating POV

-    The episode opens with Sherlock telling a story and ends with him supposedly just having finished telling a story- meaning everything in between is his telling of the events

John shot Mary and Sherlock is trying to come up with an alibi for him

-   There was a hidden shot of a paper that said “John’s alibi on it.” Alibi for what??

-   Explains why her death was so Hollywood, and why there are so many inconsistencies- it’s all a big lie

-   He “needs to know what to do about John”

-   All the nice ooc things Mary said to John are actually his words

-   A ‘fish story’ is an English euphemism for a lie and the episode opens at the aquarium. Mary also dies by taking bullet for Sherlock at the aquarium
