Amnesty International Day -  Human rights have been a hot topic in local and international politics since the 1960’s. Whether fighting for the right to marry the person of our choice or to end abuses like child labor all over the globe, Amnesty International has been in the trenches trying to make the world a better place. Amnesty International Day works to promote human rights and raise awareness of their abuses and how our choices affect them every day.

Brisket Day - Brisket comes from the breast or lower chest of beef or veal. Brisket is a tough and relatively inexpensive cut of meat. While it requires some patience to cook brisket to tenderness, the reward is well worth the effort. Select a well-marbled cut of meat. The fat will keep the brisket moist and add flavor to the final product. Season it well and give it a dark sear.  This will seal in the juices. Cook it slow and cook it long.

Cooler Day -  As simple as the design of a cooler may seem, it wasn’t until the 1950s that the first cooler or “portable icebox” made the scene. In fact, the material needed to make coolers didn’t even exist until 1944.

Don’t Fry Day -  Each year on the Friday before Memorial Day, National Don’t Fry Day aims to raise awareness of all the risks of overexposure to the sun.  It is important for everyone to remember to use sun protection and sun safety practices.

Hamburger Day -  Hamburger. Seasoned ground beef, grilled, and placed between two slices of bread or a bun. We even top them with sauteed onions, peppers, pickles, sliced onions, or cheese. Add condiments such as ketchup, mustard, or mayo. Any of these combinations create a modern American version of a hamburger.

Menstrual Hygiene Day - For a disturbingly large amount of the world’s female population, the few days a month of the menses are ‘a time of shame’. Menstruation is a natural process in which blood which was created by the body to cushion an egg is flushed from the body if the owner of the said egg does not become pregnant. It is a normal action which millions of women across the world experience, and this day seeks to remove any taboo associated with it.
