19) Are there dragons?  If so, are they literal or metaphorical?

Yep! Kaiba features pretty heavily in the Rivalship Thing, so his dragons are coming along for the ride. I'm hoping to come up with some fun plot-relevant new variations of the BEWD and its support cards, so we will see how that goes. I also love Gandora, so I'm hoping to fit that card in somewhere. Gandora vs. BEWD would be fun.

One of the main antagonists also uses a constellar deck, so I'm planning for this card to make an appearance:

🔥 – favorite character arc?

For my own writing? I like some of the stuff I’ve written with Yuma and Vector. Particular my zine fic and the fic I published for last year’s Zexal month.

It’s obviously not published, but I like writing the arc of one of the antagonists in the Rivalship thing. It’s kind of sweet and sad I feel. Also really enjoy writing Kaiba’s arc in that story, in a very I-love-seeing-my-favorite-characters-suffer kind of way ^^;

👀 Do you have any WIPs that you would never let see the light of day? If yes, what are they about?

This question is hard to answer, most WIPs I have don't see the light of day because I just lose interest in writing them, but I also have some I never get around to writing, or that I think would be too personal/embarrassing to talk about on a public forum. So here's three that fit one or more of those categories.

1) I basically have an entire plot outline for Zexal III just sitting in my brain. But writing it would be a lot of work so....

2) For about a week I got really obsessed with this idea for a steampunk western Rivalship AU. Yugi was a sheriff. The Plana were an evil cowboy gang. There was going to be a scene with Ryou Bakura conducting a seance to communicate with Atem in the afterlife. I wrote a short, messy outline for it and then just sort of forgot about it.

3) I got an idea for a past life foilship story recently, but it's really dark. I think the story would be really interesting, but I'm not sure if I'm in an emotional headspace where I want to write it.

🌝 Who is one character you haven’t yet written for that you would like to?

I'd really love to write more for Mr. Heartland. I think his whole character and backstory is really interesting, even though he has a smaller role in the show. Whenever I write a post-canon Zexal fic that requires a bad guy I usually try to use him, but I think it would be neat to write about how he ended up working for Dr. F in the first place, too.

4- Favorite season/story arc

For Zexal-The Rei Shingetsu arc.

For DM-Not really an arc, but I like those episodes that go between the end of Duelist Kingdom and the Beginning of Battle City. The Dungeon Dice Monsters mini-arc (although I like the manga version of that arc better) the “date” episode. Kaiba calling BEWD beautiful. Good times.

H: How would you describe your style?

Technically I suppose as realism with imagist aspirations. Nabokov was a huge influence on my writing when I was younger and his way of interpreting the world complements my synaesthesia very well. I never jived with Orwell’s “language should be like a plain glass window” idea, setting aside its nonsense implication that the subject of writing is somehow separate from its medium, but because irl I’m hypersensitive to the impressions and moods and connotations I get from objects and places and writing lets me express that. I don’t read him any more, but Bret Easton Ellis was also a big formative influence on me, and I think I still convey emotions & alienation in a similar way. I do some Joycean grammatical stuff too and I’d like to do more with grammar, I think grammar & syntax are where I’m weakest. I tend to rely on the same structures.
