One of the first things I learned was to talk to everyone. most people will know the obvious facts about your character and that is all. They will give you a garbled version of a certain story. It doesn’t matter. The point of the exercise is to hear the tale told over and over again until the outlines are as familiar as your own hand and you are alert to the nuances and variations that will appear along the way.
