i literally cannot stop thinking about mercury, and i blame my rw/by mutuals on my dash for making me think about this darn show again but kdjfhdnm
i think the kicked dog analogy for mercury has taken over my brain and i'm struggling to get it out. he has been chained and beaten his entire life, force to grow teeth too big for his mouth. he finally breaks free of those chains and thinks he's found someone with a gentler touch, but it's just a different one, no less painful. and he's trapped again, just on a longer leash, and the only reason he's still here is because he grew into his teeth.
he's an aggressive, violent, angry thing and no one can get too close without having their fingers bitten off. some wonder if it would be better to just put him down. mercury wonders that too. but the thing is, he's not violent because he's mean, he's violent because he's scared. because it's the only thing he's ever had to protect himself, and it's easy to see nothing but the teeth - but the eyes show the fear so clearly.
merc's saving grace is finding something more important to protect than himself. he takes that fear and that anger and points his teeth for them. he learns, for the first time in his life, a gentle touch. and that scared dog is still there, but he's learning, and he can be better. all it took was the right person.
