Why, Tumblr, WHY?
Why do you hate your users? What did we ever do to you to deserve this?
I get that one possible reason for changing the menu was to unify the stuff that used to be on the top, and the stuff that used to be on the right into one menu structure. Mind, I'm not sure that anyone asked for that, ever, but I understand the possible reasoning. It's just ... you did it BADLY.
First, you did it without any warning. Or testing that we were aware of. Feedback before inflicting this on your users might have been helpful! For us, I mean.
For example: Why hide all the options that used to be visible when you scrolled down on the right sidebar? Where the hell is the queue now? The "following" option? Used to be able to see those by scrolling down in the right sidebar; now they're just gone. (I'm sure they're hiding somewhere. Where that is, however, nobody can tell offhand.)
(Side note: I actually put a post into the queue to see if maybe it was an option that only shows up when there's something there. Sadly, this did not work. So now I have a post in the queue that will post tomorrow morning, and there's not a damn thing I can do about it because I CAN'T FIND THE STUPID THING! Seriously, how did nobody notice that before this was inflicted on us?)
Mind, it does seem to be A Thing that companies are inflicting major changes upon their users without any warning. Another site I use has decided to do A/B user testing with all their users on some serious site changes -- without asking their users or even telling them that this was coming. The ethics of that are, to put it mildly, DUBIOUS. Tumblr's approach is ... less ethically dubious, in that users aren't drafted unwilling and unknowing into doing the interface testing for them. We just get untested interface changes thrown at us.
Seriously, just ... WHY?
