A strong-growing perennial which forms an extensive colony, Mentha suaveolens 'Variegata' (pineapple mint, variegated apple mint, variegated round-leaved mint) has wisely been planted in a container to prevent the spread through the garden. In summer there are tiny purple flowers on dense spikes.

Bio: Sprout appears to be a cute gardening robot who helps Rosa around the Biodome, but it's actually an incubator with arms and wheels for a strange pink seed!
Visited my P-patch and decided to do an impromptu harvest! There is a big lilac (Syringa vulgaris) in the area so I took some flowers to try and turn into a syrup. Aside from the lilac I also harvested a bunch of weeds from the giving gardens to eat! I figured I could make stir fry using the fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), red deadnettle (Lamium purpureum), and mint (Mentha spp.) growing everywhere. I’m thinking I could improvise something Mediterranean or Greek-adjacent.
Also, a bonus leafhopper on the mint!
Meet the original source of the flavouring know from toothpaste, mouthwash, and chewing gum - the spearmint plant (Mentha spicata). This plant thrives in shady spots in the garden during the summer. The distinctive taste and scent comes from the naturally occurring chemical R-(-)-carvone. The taste of genuine spearmint is far richer and more complex than its artificially flavoured version, and spearmint plants have been bred to have many different shades of flavour such as “chocolate mint” and “pineapple mint”. It’s an excellent tea herb and it combines well with many other fresh herbs from the garden. There is medical research supporting spearmint’s herbal medicine uses for digestive system issues and antimicrobial properties.
