Aaron peeked out of the musty old curtains once more, letting out a heavy sigh at the sight of the hoard that was surrounding the place. If they didn’t migrate away soon this would become a problem. For the night, they could stick it out if they had to. He and Daryl had ended up in this mess on a run together. It almost felt like the old days, when Aaron had first talked Daryl into recruiting with him.
❝It looks like we’ll be here awhile.❞ They’d luckily found one of the rooms empty, not smelling too horribly like rot, no ancient gut and blood stains on the walls, just musty and old. They were on the third floor of what once must have been a pretty fancy hotel. Their safe space had a big bed, sofa, huge tv, and jacuzzi, all covered in dust and dirt, walls cracking and curtains raggedy. It shouldn’t do so much to Daryl. At least, not do this: spark a warmth and welcome straight through his chest. Ben hurting –– not sleeping, not eating, aching –– ‘cause of him... that’s never something Daryl wants. But as he looks at the plaintive face peering up at him from the mattress, all Daryl can think is how nice that notion is. Being missed. Not sure he’s ever had that before.
His jeans are still filthy from that crawl through the ditch by the old mall. His palms are scraped raw and tingling from dragging himself over rubble. He doesn’t give a shit about any of that in this moment, sinking down over the bedspread and crawling forward to catch Ben’s mouth in a firm kiss.
“Ain’t gotta miss me, alright? Might be gone a day or two, here ‘n there. But I’ll always be back. Gotta.” And it’s not an easy admission but how can he not say it, with Ben splayed out soft-eyed under him? “...Got you to come back for.”

Alexandria requested a few members of the other communities to attend their council meeting today. Tara couldn’t leave, so she suggested that Jesus go in her place. He didn’t mind, he’d do anything for her, he was just a little hesitant.
He didn’t want the people to start viewing him as a leader - he wasn’t.
But he went anyway, because Tara asked him to. And since he was representing the community, he put his hair up in a bun to at least look a little more presentable.
Upon entering Alexandria, he hops off his horse and starts to walk her over to the nearest stall one of the guards directed him to, leaving her with one of their stablemen. Including his horse there were a handful of gorgeous steeds being tended to.
Lifting his hand - the one with the now almost scar, Jesus takes off his glove and reaches out to pet a few of them. He’s cautious with them, and allows them to smell him first before he gives them each a pat.
Blue eyes catch a glimpse of his wound, almost healing perfectly. His mind drifts to Aaron, how they shared their first kiss, how much he missed him because it’s been too damn long in Paul’s mind.
“You’re from Hilltop, correct?”
Jesus snaps out of his thoughts then, smiling as the horse nuzzles into his touch. He turns and nods toward the other man. ❛Yes, I am.❜
“Great. Father Gabriel says the meeting won’t be starting until the King arrives, so enjoy our community.”
Slipping his glove back on, Jesus nods as he starts to walk around, though he’s not even sure where he’s going as he walks through the streets.
He wants to find Aaron while he has the time, that’s all he knows.

He drifted awake nestled in a cocoon of soft-warm and hard, the air thick and humid and a weight wrapped in his arms he didn’t ever want to let go of. He couldn’t remember ever feeling so light and so heavy. Couldn’t remember waking up in anything but a startle. But in here, with a bunched sheet all that was blocking his back from bare wood and morning light doing its damned best to filter through the blanket over his head, he thought vaguely that he’d be happy to lie here all day.
Ben was with him.
It was still a new thought, that, and the fact that that meant so much to him. Ben was an echo from a heartbeat between his old life and his new one, and Daryl’d never realized how different his heart had beat in that moment ‘til he’d seen him again inside Alexandria’s walls. Like worlds colliding. Or clicking into place, clicking right.
He felt Ben shift faintly against him, and dragged lazy fingers in a slow stroke up his back.
“Should probably get up,” he murmured, soft enough not to startle Ben if he wasn’t quite awake yet. “Move to the bed, ‘least. Been here two nights and y’ain’t even tried it out yet.”
