Together - Ruby x Tuah (can be AU or canon <333)
Send me a “Together” and I’ll write a drabble about them spending their first night together (platonic, just sleeping)
ooc: set in an AU where the hunters manage to infiltrate the town and practically kill everyone we know and love, but not really lol.
“You should rest.” Tuah wrapped the blanket that he found on the upper floor around her, and dainty fingers automatically pulled it closer to her body to keep herself warm. He hadn’t found anything of substance for Ruby to eat, however, whatever was left after the raid was too spoiled to be eaten. “We should be safe for tonight. I’ve put up a barrier around the house so we’ll be at least be protected somewhat. Besides, the house looks like it’s been raided recently, so I doubt they’ll be returning soon.” Not to mention that nightfall would come soon. They knew better than to hunt at nights. At least that what Tuah hoped for anyway, but he wasn’t holding his breath. The barrier would tell him if someone was approaching, giving them ample time to run.
“How did you know to put up a barrier?” Ruby’s soft voice echoed through the house as she looked up with her brows furrowed together, and he felt strange to be hearing the familiar voice sounding so distant. Perhaps it was the product of being alone with his own thoughts for far too long that it was starting to get to him. But he didn’t want to let his friend worry about him, so he let his lips curled into a smile as he took a seat next to her.
“Learnt it while travelling,” he casually mentioned, opting to say that he was travelling rather than running away, even though it was heavily implied. “I don’t have any magic, so the barrier is quite weak. It’ll only last for a couple of hours then I’ll have to strengthen it again.”
“Oh.” Tuah heard the soft sigh escaping Ruby’s lips, her hair hiding her face as she looked away from him, her feet pulled against her chest making her appearing smaller than she already was. He looked away as well, his lips pressed together as his eyes gazed at the leaves and flowers growing between the cracks on the floor. There were shattered glasses on the floor from the smashed windows and words were scrawled across the walls left by the fanatics that weren’t on their side. Tuah had noticed the pictures hanging on the wall and placed on the mantle of the fireplace, and he wondered what had happened to the family that once lived here before dismissing the thought from his mind, not wanting to dwell on something that he couldn’t fix.
It had been far too many years since the hunters destroyed their sanctum in Soapberry Springs, eradicating both supernatural and humans that had lived harmoniously in that town. Tuah could still hear the screams echoing through his mind, haunting his steps day and night. He didn’t know how it happened, despite all these years searching for it he still hadn’t had the answer.
But there were other things that occupied his mind when he wasn’t too busy evading the hunter’s chase (it was easier since he had practice in the past. Not easy, but easier), mainly about his kasih. Iann’s fate was still unknown to him since they weren’t together at the time, and he had been trying to find the man ever since, refusing to accept the possibility of losing the man forever. Besides, their bond told him that Iann was still alive, the quiet hum in his head was the only solace that he took to know that Iann was somewhere out there, and he was determined to find him no matter what. He refused to think what would happen when he couldn’t hear the quiet chant anymore, refusing to believe the hum that he heard was merely echoes of one’s long dead.
Tuah shook his head and leaned back against the three seated sofa chair, turning his attention towards Ruby. It was a coincidence that they had bumped into each other, both of them had been on high alert during their run. Like him, she was separated from her husbands while trying to escape the ultimatum that was brought upon their beloved town. She was thinner than he remembered, almost malnourished looking. He would have thought she would have a better chance of surviving than any of them considering that she was technically part of human race, though he supposed she would just be hunted for what she believed in as well. His experience in the past had thought that humans could just be as cruel to each other as they were to another species, so why would this be an exception.
Ruby shifted in her position now, her head leaning against Tuah’s chest as she wrapped the blanket around herself tighter. “You should feed.” Her voice was even softer now, perhaps exhaustion had finally caught on once she let her guard down. “You look terrible, Tuah.” Did he? He didn’t realise that.
“I’m fine.” Her weight against him was as comforting to him as it was to her, the familiar scent surrounding him as he wrapped his arm around her, pulling her close. A whiff of her scent brought a new wave of hunger, however, though not enough to make him lose his control.
“Liar.” Tuah let his lips curled into a smile at the other’s words, pressing his lips on top of her hair and he felt her shifting once again. “You’re a terrible liar.”
“I’ve been told that a couple of times.” a soft chuckle escaped his lips, his hand running along Ruby’s arm. “I’ll feed once you’re taken care of. You don’t look too good yourself, my dear.”
“‘m fine.”
“Of course you are.”
Moments passed between them and silence took over, both the human and the vampire finally settled in for the night before his ears perked up as the other spoke softly,
“Tuah?”
“Hmm?”
He peered his eyes opened and saw Ruby looking at him, a look of hesitation on her face. Tuah furrowed his brows together, wondering if there was anything wrong. But then she shifted and pressed her lips to his cheek. “I’m glad I found you.” For the first time, he saw a genuine smile on her lips, though it was merely an upturned of her lips.
“I’m glad as well.” he moved to brush her hair and tucked it behind her ear. “Now get some rest. We have a much to do come tomorrow morning, hm.”
With a nod, Ruby settled into the cocoon of sort that she had made with the blanket, her warm body pressed firmly against his own. Tuah shut his eyes too, hoping that he would get some rest as well.
