For those who don't know or remember, Argento is the main antagonist of the novel! He is the current king of the kingdom of Melor(based on the metal element), a once very powerful and dominating force in the world before they were cursed to be forgotten many decades ago. Argento may be relatively young for a ruler(he's 25), but he has already proven himself more than capable and competent as he has done more work to break his kingdom's curse than any of his previous predecessors have. He is a very cunning, ruthless, and merciless ruler, who has two main goals he is working to achieve: The first to restore his kingdom to its former and an even greater glory, and the second to bring his "rainbow" back to him and make it so she never leaves again.

A super special commission I got last week from moth.deity over on Instagram, of the main antagonist for the novel, King Argento Mercury~! :D This has been a commission I have been wanting to get in general for a long time, to have a sort of 'impactful' introduction to the main bad buy of the story(aside from his bio earlier). So, here he is!
As always, it was super fun getting to commission Nel again! :3 She did a great job in bringing my idea to life, and helping with his armor too since that has admittedly always been a weak spot for me when it comes to his design(and is mainly why I haven't drawn his reference myself yet). If you are looking for art of your characters, I highly recommend her! Not only does she have such a beautiful and detailed style, but she is also super nice and flexible to talk to as well! ^w^
The second post about the antagonist! Originally had started a different version of this in my drafts six months ago, but I never really touched it since then. As was going to be mentioned, I have felt more comfortable during the past year to share more about the main antagonist, as while my original intention was to keep them a secret till the actually story comes out, I have technically already shared snippets about him already.
So, get ready to hate this guy! This is just his basic information for now since I still need to draw his official reference, but hope you still enjoy reading!
. Relationships: Crowned Princess Talia Neptune(former fling, still currently pursuing)
. Abilities: metal magic(natural), hand-to-hand combat, sword-fighting
. Physical Appearance: tall with a well-built and muscular build, straight and shoulder-length silver hair, tanned skin, dark gray eyes
King of the Kingdom of Melor, the cursed to be forgotten fifth kingdom. Since he was born he was raised in only the most cutthroat and merciless environment, one that did not leave room for softer emotions or anything deemed asĀ āweaknessā. Argento himself has grown to be very cunning and ruthless, doing whatever he deems necessary to achieve his goals and get what he wants, and cares little for the feelings of others he may hurt along the way. He does recognize his behavior as cruel, but with the attitude instilled in him from his older family members and his kingdom's general bitterness towards others and goals of becoming the strongest over all the other countries, it is the only way of thinking he knows. He is intelligent in many areas, most notably battle strategies and is always calculating his next moves carefully. He is entirely unforgiving and unforgivable, but he does have somewhat of a small soft spot only for those he deems the most loyal to him, such as his older sister. His hunger for power and domination has allowed him to recently become the new king, as he managed to beat his father in a duel for the throne. Melor traditionally follows an "upon death" line of succession, but heirs can duel their predecessors for the throne if wanted or needed. Such is the case for Argento, as when he was building up his strength he planned on beating his father to put his plans into full action without his father potentially preventing him. He still recognizes his father is a powerful and strong man to have on his side, so he still keeps him and his sister close for a form of "council" with his plans, as they help him out.
When he was 22 he decided to venture out of Melor to spend the summer in Versuvia, the melting pot country of the mainland, to conduct some research on how to bring his kingdom back into prominence. While there he met Crowned Princess Talia Neptune, who was also in the country on a trip her and her graduating class got to take. They hit it off fairly well at first, both charmed and interested in the other, and soon entered into a little fling together. It was pretty fun and exciting for the first several weeks, though Talia was never really aware of his royal background or Melor in general, just assuming him to be some rich hunk and never thought to look into who he was further. As he was enticed by her spirit and magic, he thought that with his "help" he could help her expand upon and broaden the range of her power beyond the vanity she most often displayed it as at the time. This is when she started to notice the red flags about him, and when he wanted for her to come back to Melor with him, she refused. This caused some pretty big verbal fights and hurtful words to happen between the two, which all escalated to the point where during one particular fight Talia impulsively slapped him in an attempt to get him away. Needless to say she was very scared after that point, quickly packing her things up and heading back home as soon as possible. Even if heavily implied from their fights, there was never an official breakup between the two. Argento noticed this, and as he was never taught the proper ways of romantic love he had a twisted obsession about her, one where he wanted her for himself but not necessarily for pure love or the like. He swore a "vengeance" on her after that fateful summer, and during the past three years since then he both became king and together with his family, has been putting together a plan to get her back.
This is a special post, as it marks the start of me officially talking more about the novelās antagonist! If you have been following my work closely then you might have seen a couple subtle mentions of them before, and while I originally intended to keep them a secret till my novel actually comes out, I thought there would be no harm sharing a little bit about them as I have already with one of my friends.Ā
So, this first post is for the basic information(following similarly to the other kingdom info posts I did a few years ago) for the antagonistās kingdom, as yes, there is a fifth kingdom! It is known as Melor, and is based off of the metal element. More info can be found under theĀ āreadmoreā!
. The seemingly forgotten fifth kingdom, based off of the metal element.
. Located far away from the four āAllianceā kingdoms(though closer in proximity to Erdennia and Feor) and other countries, so it is hard to come across or travel to.
. In terms of physical size it is pretty average to some of the surrounding countries, and in terms of population size it used to be fairly big too but has been decreasing over the last couple of decades due to the curse placed on it.
. Predominately a patriarchy, as such only men have ruled or been able to.
. Used to be a very prominent kingdom with a powerful influence over neighboring countries, but since the aforementioned curse barely anyone knows or talks about it. No one really knows that much about it if they still remember it, and they are not sure why that is exactly.
. Those with a hunch though say it is because many decades ago the king at the time bumped into this insanely powerful witch in the country Plerus during his travels, and after one moment of sleeping together and finding out his true nature, she cursed him and his entire kingdom to be forgotten.
. The recent kings have started trying to break the curse, first with finding some new allies to trade with. One of these allies is the country Quastril, where both countries feel 'wronged' and mistrusting of others. Melor provides Quastril with materials while they provide them with some of their technology, making Melor secretly the second-most technologically advanced country.
. Their other ally is Feor, providing them with a lot of the metal used in their armor in exchange for their protection in not spilling their secret or talking about them at all. At first they got along fairly well, but overtime Melor started resenting Feor and has in secret built their own army's strength up, so that one day they can take them down and no longer require their protection.
. Aside from Feor they have the strongest and biggest military around, as well as the more advanced one with all their armor and weapons. While they are technically considered allies at the moment, with how Melor provides Feor with a lot of materials to use in their own army, as well as being generally more aggressive andĀ ādominantā than them on the battlefield, there is not one soldier from Melor that doesnāt think they could easily beat Feor in battle if it comes to that point someday.
. While their kingdom has generally been forgotten by most others, and many citizens choosing to move away because of this, those who have remained are very loyal to not just their country but also the royal family. They believe in their plans of conquest and domination, and if they are not already part of the military, they take up other occupation and positions that support it.
. In terms of politics they are very traditional/conservative but are a little more progressive in some areas. Their main values are leadership, ruthlessness, and physical strength. High intelligence is also highly valued but mainly when it comes to plans or battle strategies, and moreĀ āpeacefulā pursuits like the arts are generally frowned upon and seen as a waste of time, though there is an exception for sculptures.
