Commercial interests impact our media use and experience
We can see a lot of information about media ownership and advertisements for platforms on the web. Commercial interests have influenced our media use and experience. For example, Twitter began to change after Elon Musk purchased it. For example, Blue Certified users will have to pay for a Twitter Blue subscription or lose their "Certified" badge. Furthermore, unverified users can currently read 1,000 tweets and verified users 10,000 per day. Although I use Twitter sparingly, these new rules and limitations have already impacted and decreased the experience of lots of users. Many Japanese illustrators moved to other platforms like Wei Bo because of these. Therefore, media ownership and its transformation will influence whether we want to use one media or forum. However, if there's no choice besides this media, people can only continue to use it.
The cost is the most important factor that decides whether I use media. I need a monthly subscription fee for a better experience, like viewing more tweets or no advertisements. In that case, I will not subscribe to that media and use it occasionally, like Twitter. If I want to know news or other information, I still have a lot of choices, like using Instagram, and even if I don't subscribe, it won't affect my use very much. However, if I want to watch an exclusive TV show, like Squid Games, I have no choice but to subscribe to Netflix.
Therefore, the media's commercial interest affects my usage and experience through media ownership, advertising, and subscription mechanisms.
