Protodude asking the important questions. Interview below the cut. It's pretty... bad.
Cool. I'm okay with an original Maverick, but I'm worried they'll go into Archie Sonic territory and give us another Scourge the Hedgehog situation (and let's not get into how infamous Ken Penders is either). Honestly, I'd rather have a female Maverick, but knowing Udon, she'll either be an overly sexualized trope, or they won't bother cuz to them women are only good for being objects.
Not a jab at Protodude here, but the reception was not "met with a lot of praise". I saw some comments worrying about how much lore Daniel could possibly fit into a mere six issues, especially considering the abysmal pacing of the X1 comics. I'd personally rather see this comic series fail. I'd rather have nothing than witness my favorite video game series be butchered by chuds who don't have any respect for fans like myself.
This just further solidifies that these comics aren't canon, despite being lazy half-assed retellings of the games they're adapting. The Mega Man team is... questionable at best, considering they're opposed to MHX designs, but are A-ok with canon-breaking and misinterpreting characters.
Finally, here's the question everyone has been wondering since friggin' 2018.
Yeah, they're pretty much holding the series hostage so it doesn't overshadow Daniel's far inferior adaption to placate his fragile ego. Udon can't fathom the thought of a highly-anticipated and sought-after manga series selling better and receiving more praise than their own lousy comics. They know this exact scenario would happen if Mega Mission released alongside the X2 adaptation cuz more fans would care about an English translation of an original side story than a 1:1 retelling of a game from 1994. And since the comics aren't selling well (despite Udon's claims), they'd have to cancel the series.
Screw Udon, Matt, Daniel, and whoever else.
